Richard was born on July 21, 1940, in Huntington, WV, to Bennard B. Minnix and Mabel Lorena Hunt Minnix. He left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and care of his devoted family and cherished friends. Richard shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Peggy S. Farley Minnix, whom he married on March 18, 1961. They shared many great adventures traveling the world together and getting to enjoy just being together. They raised one daughter, Tamara S. Minnix Rozzi, and he often said, "and that one was enough"!! He was predeceased by his parents; his infant brother, William Minnix; his sister, Wilma Minnix McCoy, and her husband, Duane I. Richard's life was marked by dedication and service. He graduated from Huntington East High School in 1958 and pursued further studies at Marshall University. He served his country with distinction in the US Army and Army Reserves, working as a motor pool officer. Richard's professional journey was as impressive as it was diverse, starting with the ownership of Minnix Riverside Esso, followed by a rewarding career as a service manager at Superior Cadillac-Olds. In 1970, he embraced a new challenge, joining Standard Food Service as a Chemical Specialist, where he grew a successful department from scratch to a 6.25-million-dollar specialty division over 32 years until his retirement in 2002. A man of faith, Richard played a pivotal role in founding the Church in the Valley, Milton WV, and was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church at the time of his passing. His passions extended beyond his professional life — Richard was a private pilot and owned a Cessna 182, which allowed him to share many adventures with his family and friends, especially the golf trips. An avid golfer, Richard often joked that it became his full-time job after retirement. Richard will be remembered for his infectious smile, his genuine warmth, and his unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He had a unique ability to turn strangers into friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand. A celebration of Richard's life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Lemming, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior at 10:00 AM, at Beard's Mortuary, located at 3001 3rd Ave, Huntington, WV 25702. The Minnix family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Huntington for their compassionate support, which allowed his daughter Tammy, granddaughter Leila, and wife Peggy to fulfill his wish of spending his final days at home, surrounded by love and comfort. Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
