It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard A. Potter, a cherished son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Richard left this world on February 28, 2026, from the comfort of his home, at the ripe age of 99, in Flatwoods, Kentucky, a place he always held close to his heart.
Born on December 15, 1926, to John and Margaret Potter, Richard grew up in a loving family alongside his sisters, Betty, Helen, and Margaret. He was the last of the Potter family, predeceased by his beloved parents and sisters. Richard's legacy, however, lives on through his three beautiful daughters, nine grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren, who continue to embody the values and warmth he so graciously imparted.
Richard shared a remarkable journey with his wife, Margaret, to whom he was devoted for 65 extraordinary years. Their life together was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and Richard often spoke of how much joy their family brought him.
A proud veteran, Richard dedicated 30 years of his life to serving in the United States Army. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and upon retirement, he transitioned into a fulfilling career with the Ford Motor Plant, where he also made lasting friendships and left a lasting impression through his hard work and integrity.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a pillar in his community as an active member of the First Baptist Church for over 40 years. His faith was a guiding light, and he found great joy in serving others, always with a smile on his face. Richard's kindness and generosity touched countless lives, and he was known for his open heart and warm spirit.
Richard had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid fisherman and found peace in tending to his garden daily. His love for nature was evident in the sunroom he built, allowing him to nurture his vegetable plants year-round. A dedicated fan of the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeyes, Richard cherished the camaraderie and excitement of sports, often sharing these moments with family and friends.
The Potter family extends their deepest gratitude to the Hospice of Kentucky, The First Baptist Church, and Magnolia Cremation Services for their compassionate care and support in preparing Richard for his final journey. Your kindness has been a source of comfort during this difficult time.
As we celebrate Richard's life, we remember him not only for the incredible years he graced us with but for the love, laughter, and wisdom he shared. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace under the Golden Gate, reunited with those he loved and missed dearly.
