It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Anthony Gonzalez on May 20, 2026 at 5:20 p.m., at the exact age of 99.5. Richard slipped away into eternal rest at his cherished home in Wellington, Florida, enveloped by the love and devotion of his wife, Glenna, to whom he was married for nearly 55 wonderful years. Born in Tampa on November 20, 1926, to Nestor A. Gonzalez and Argelia Santisteban, Richard grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and community. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1945, marking the beginning of a life characterized by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his beliefs and loved ones. Richard's career as a traveling salesman spanned over 35 years, allowing him to touch the lives of countless individuals across the country. His friendly demeanor and genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure in his professional circles. Before retiring at the age of 65 in 1991, Richard also dedicated five years of service to the United States Postal Service, a testament to his work ethic and dedication. A man of faith, Richard was an active member of Saint Rita's Catholic Church for over 25 years. He served as an usher for the Saturday evening service and generously volunteered his time to assist with the counting of the church collections. His commitment to his community extended beyond the church walls, as he proudly served as a member of the Citizens on Patrol (COP) for the Palm Beach Sheriff's Department for over two decades, earning the title of Volunteer Emeritus, and was an engaged member of the local Optimist Club during the 1970s and 1980s. Richard was a passionate sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for baseball. Initially a fervent supporter of the New York Yankees, he later became a devoted Miami Marlins fan. His family fondly recalls his spirited engagement with the games, often animatedly expressing his thoughts as he watched his team play. Richard's love for his country was profound, and he was a proud supporter of the Republican Party and conservative principles. Family was the cornerstone of Richard's life. He was predeceased by his first spouse, Margie, his eldest son, Richard Gonzalez, and his grandson, Joshua Gonzalez. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Glenna, and his children, Karen Clough (Michael, deceased), Roger Gonzalez (Tammie), Russell Gonzalez (Carol), and Ron Gonzalez (Silvana). Richard's legacy also lives on through his 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. He leaves behind his siblings, Carrie Lindblom (Sidney, deceased), Rita Krutchik (Ralph, deceased), Anilo Gonzalez (Joy, deceased), and Elva Garcia (Walter, deceased), who will dearly miss their brother's steadfast presence. Richard will be remembered for his strength of will, his love for Glenna, and his unwavering principles. His pride in being an American was matched only by his love for his family, who will forever cherish the memories of a life well-lived. A service to celebrate Richard's life and legacy will be held on June 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Palms West Funeral home with viewing until 10:30 a.n., then a mass at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Rita's Catholic Church, located at 1364 Paddock Dr, Wellington, FL 33414. Following the church service we will proceed to Queen of Heaven cemetery in N Lauderdale for an internment ceremony at 1:30 p.m. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Trustbridge Hospice for their compassionate care.
