Richard Allen Taft

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Allen Taft, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on July 26, 2026. Born on September 23, 1945, in Port Arthur, Texas, Richard was the cherished son of Gunnar Emil Taft and Ruby Jewel Taft. He was a man of unwavering kindness, strength, and a quiet humility that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Richard’s journey through life was marked by dedication and achievement. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1964, where he first showcased his athletic prowess on the football field, earning a scholarship to the University of Texas. He later completed his studies at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, in 1968. Pursuing his passion for the law, Richard attended the University of Houston Bates College of Law from 1968 to 1970. Professionally, Richard found success as a Senior Vice President at MarshMcLennan Agency, where his leadership and integrity were deeply respected. Beyond his career, he was a dedicated member of Southstone Church, where his faith and community service inspired those around him. On April 6, 1968, Richard married the love of his life, Frances Denise Davis, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned 58 wonderful years. Together, they raised a loving family: their son, Joshua Tyler Taft, and daughters, Traci Erin Taft Corder, Natalie Denise Taft Dollar, and Chelsea Lorraine Taft Altuna. Richard's legacy is carried forward by his 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish his memory. Richard's life was enriched by simple joys and profound passions. He found peace and happiness fishing in the saltwaters of Bolivar Peninsula, especially at Crystal Beach. Football was another of his great loves, but nothing surpassed the love he held for his family, who were the center of his world. His beautiful singing voice and infectious whistling filled his home with warmth and joy, creating cherished memories for his children. Though Richard was predeceased by his parents, his brother James Cliver, sister-in-law Goldie Cliver, and nephew Clifford Ross Taft Jr., his spirit remains vibrant and his memory eternal in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
