Born on October 10, 1938, in the close-knit community of Kirksville, MO, Richard was the cherished son of Ralph and Mabel Adams. He grew up alongside his twin sister, Barbara, in a home filled with love and laughter.
Richard’s life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and generosity. He graduated from Memphis Public Schools before proudly serving his country in the Navy. His commitment to service continued in his professional life, where he built a distinguished career at The University of Missouri. Over 35 years, he became a beloved figure within the university, retiring with the respect and admiration from colleagues.
On January 11, 1964, Richard married the love of his life, Joanne Cone, in Kansas City. Together, they shared 62 wonderful years, raising two sons, Ryan and Curt, and creating a family filled with warmth and enduring love. Richard’s family was his pride and joy, and his legacy lives on in his sons, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Richard was known for his remarkable skill and craftsmanship. An avid collector of tractors, he could take an old machine and make it run like new, a testament to his patience and expertise. His passion for building and fixing things was a gift he passed down to his sons and grandson, sharing countless hours working side by side in joyful collaboration.
A dedicated member of the Missouri Steam Engine Association, Richard found camaraderie and shared passion in the company of fellow enthusiasts. His ability to lend a helping hand, coupled with his generosity, touched countless lives. Whether it was fixing a neighbor’s tractor or offering sage advice, Richard’s presence was a blessing to those around him.
Richard found peace alongside his parents and his dear sister, Barbara. He leaves behind his devoted wife Joanne, his sons Ryan and Curt, two grandchildren, and two adored great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
In celebration of Richard’s remarkable life, a memorial service will be held at a future date, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the indelible mark he left on their lives.
