April 17, 1942 — June 3, 2026

It is with profound sadness and respect that we announce the passing of Richard A. Houser, a beloved husband, dedicated educator, and compassionate soul, who left this world on June 3, 2026, at the age of 84, in the gentle embrace of hospice care in Sun City, Florida. Born on April 17, 1942, in the quaint town of Bradford, Pennsylvania, Richard was the cherished son of Charles and Louise Houser. From an early age, he exhibited a profound love for learning and an innate desire to help others, qualities that would define his life's journey. A proud graduate of Bradford High School in 1960, Richard continued to pursue his passion for education at Lock Haven University, where he graduated in 1966. Richard's career as an elementary school teacher was marked by his unwavering dedication to his students, whom he inspired with his gentle guidance and infectious enthusiasm for learning. Beyond the traditional classroom, he also imparted knowledge and hope through teaching GED classes, opening doors to new opportunities for countless individuals seeking a brighter future. In addition to his work in education, Richard found fulfillment in his role as the Director of the Shepherd’s House in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. Here, he tirelessly served his community, extending a helping hand to those in need with unwavering compassion and grace. His dedication to service was not limited to his professional life; Richard was a man of faith who lived his Christian values, always ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed. In 1993, Richard found his lifelong partner in Susan Fleming, whom he married on September 25. Their union was a testament to love, mutual respect, and unwavering support, carrying them through life's triumphs and trials. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Richard's life was also enriched by his hobbies and interests. He found solace and joy in the simple act of painting houses, finding beauty in transformation, just as he did in the lives of those he touched. His commitment to service and faith remained steadfast, even as he faced the challenges of a long-term illness with Lyme Disease. Richard was predeceased by his beloved parents, Charles and Louise Houser, and his dear sister, Nancy Kania. Although he has departed from this world, his legacy of kindness, wisdom, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. In remembering Richard, we honor a life well-lived, a man who selflessly devoted himself to the betterment of others. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and enduring faith will be dearly missed but never forgotten. A private memorial service will be held to celebrate Richard's life and the indelible mark he left on the world. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard's memory to the Shepherd’s House in Mt. Airy, NC, continuing his legacy of compassion and service. May Richard A. Houser rest in eternal peace, his life a testament to the power of love, education, and unwavering faith.
