Richard Dowling

Richard Dowling, a cherished husband, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 17, 2026. Born on June 10, 1955, in Nyack, NY, Richard was the beloved son of the late Richard Dowling and Sonia Hornyak. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Diane Price. Richard was a man of integrity and warmth, having spent his formative years in the close-knit community of Nyack. He graduated from Nyack High School in 1973 and pursued further education at SUNY New Paltz, where he developed a passion for building and design. This passion led him to a successful career as a Construction Surveyor with the International Operating Engineers Local 15D, where he was respected for his dedication and precision. On October 10, 1997, Richard married the love of his life, Susan Hanley. The couple shared 28 beautiful years together, bound by mutual respect and a love for travel. They particularly cherished their trips to Europe, where they explored the rich history and vibrant cultures that the continent has to offer. Richard’s adventurous spirit and genuine curiosity for the world left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Susan, and his sisters, Susan Houghtelling and Stephanie Lopez, who will remember him for his kindness, humor, and unwavering support. His presence in their lives was a constant source of joy and inspiration. A service to honor Richard's life will be held on August 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, located on Jefferson St., Nyack, NY. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a man who touched so many with his warmth and generosity. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, an organization that was close to Richard’s heart. Richard will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
