In Loving Memory of Richard Portillo It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for the life we shared that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Richard Portillo on June 21, 2026, at the age of 49. Born on February 9, 1977, in the serene town of Silver City, NM, Richard's journey through life was as vibrant and steadfast as the desert landscapes of his birthplace. Richard was the treasured son of Sandra and Eugene Brown and Richard and Dorothy Portillo. He was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Naomi Portillo, with whom he shared a love story that began at the tender age of 12. Their paths intertwined in a way that only the truest soulmates could experience, culminating in their marriage on December 30, 2021, a testament to their enduring bond. Richard's life was enriched by his family, who were his greatest pride and joy. He leaves behind his beloved children, Brinda Vargas, Zachary Munoz, Austin Portillo, and Jewel Portillo, and step-children, Britni Parra and Daniel Parra. His legacy continues through his five precious grandchildren: Charlie, Zachariah, Oliver, Gary, and Ezra, who brought light and laughter to his days. Educated at both Cobre and Silver High Schools, Richard's determination led him to earn his GED in 1995. He went on to excel in retail for many years, before pursuing his passion for mechanics, graduating with a degree from Universal Technical Institute (UTI). He also worked in the microchip technology industry for many years. His career was marked by his unwavering work ethic and a genuine love for helping others, leaving a lasting impact on colleagues and customers alike. Richard's circle extended beyond his immediate family, encompassing Rito and Jeannett Medina and family and countless others who affectionately called him "brother" and "Uncle Ric." His best friends, Jeremy (Brandy) McKamie and Troy (Rachel) Harp, were as close as kin, sharing countless adventures and standing by each other through life's challenges. Richard was enveloped by love in his final moments, passing peacefully at his parent's Gene and Sandra’s home, surrounded by his family. His choice to live and leave on his terms was a reflection of his unwavering spirit and the grace with which he faced every chapter of his life. No funeral ceremony will be held in accordance with his wishes, honoring the intimate bonds he cherished with his family and closest friends. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to St. Joseph's Hospital, Harold Martin, NP, and the compassionate team at West Valley Hospice for their care and support. Special thanks are also extended to Auntie Christie and Uncle Vic, and cousin Jacob De la Garza, as well as Dan and Christie Brown, whose presence provided comfort and companionship during Richard's final days. As we remember Richard, let us celebrate the warmth he brought into our lives, the laughter he shared, and the love that will forever be his enduring legacy. His spirit will continue to guide us, as we hold him close in our hearts, now and always.
