It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rhyen Simon Valdez, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on May 14, 2026, at the tender age of 29. Born on May 6, 1997, in Fresno, CA, Rhyen’s life, though far too short, was filled with love, laughter, and a legacy of dedication and kindness that touched everyone he encountered. Rhyen was cherished by his parents, Simon Valdez Jr. and Angelica Ramirez, whose unwavering support and love were the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind his adoring sisters, Jennifer and Natalie Valdez, who cherished and supported him every step of the way. His nephews, Patrick Ethan and Luca Williams, and his beloved goddaughter, Naya Williams, were constant sources of pride and joy for him, and he imparted to them his love for life. A proud graduate of Selma High School in June 2015, Rhyen was on the cusp of celebrating a significant academic milestone, poised to receive his bachelor’s degree from Fresno State on May 15, 2026. His academic journey was a testament to his determination and passion for education, as he aspired to become a high school history teacher. Rhyen's commitment to nurturing young minds was evident in his work with Clovis Unified, where he enthusiastically engaged with elementary students in the extended learning department. Rhyen's life was marked by honor and service, reflected in his distinguished military career. Serving in the U.S. Army, he rose to the rank of sergeant, with postings in South Korea and Germany, and a home base at Ft. Hood. His military tenure was a period of growth and camaraderie, where he exemplified leadership and resilience. Throughout his college years, Rhyen was an active participant in numerous organizations that reflected his diverse interests and vibrant spirit. He was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, the Fresno State Rugby team, and the Student Veteran Organization, among others. His involvement in these groups underscored his love for camaraderie, sportsmanship, and service. Rhyen's hobbies and interests were as varied as his talents. He was an avid traveler, a devoted fan of the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Dodgers, and a passionate gamer. These pursuits brought him joy and relaxation, providing him with cherished memories with family and friends. Those who knew Rhyen knew him as a loving, kind, and strong individual, whose empathy and compassion were boundless. He was a beacon of positivity, always ready to extend a helping hand or a listening ear. His dreams were big, his heart was generous, and his spirit was indomitable. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. A service celebrating Rhyen's remarkable life will be held on June 5, 2026, at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 2441 Dockery Ave, Selma, CA 93662. Family and friends are invited to gather, sharing stories and memories in honor of a life well-lived. In a special message from his family, they express, “Please continue to honor and remember my brother for the amazing person he was.
