It is with profound sadness and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Rhonda Kay Nichol, who peacefully left this world on April 1, 2026, at the age of 73, after a series of illnesses. Rhonda was a beacon of joy and warmth, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Born on December 13, 1952, in Freeport, Illinois, Rhonda was the beloved daughter of Jean and the late Keith Sturtevant. She grew up in a household full of love, learning the values of kindness and resilience from her parents, which she carried throughout her life. Rhonda was predeceased by her husband, Richard C Nichol Jr., and her father, Keith, whose memories she cherished deeply. Rhonda's life was a tapestry of vibrant stories and meaningful connections, woven through her roles in various professional endeavors. Her journey began at Microswitch, followed by a fulfilling period of self-employment with CollectionsUnlimited. Ultimately, she found joy in her work at Lakeside Mobil in Durand, where she retired as a manager, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and camaraderie among her colleagues. Beyond her professional life, Rhonda had an array of passions that brought her immense joy. She was endlessly amused by her little partner in crime, Sassy, whose antics provided countless hours of companionship and laughter. Rhonda also dedicated time to tracing her family's genealogy, a pursuit that connected her to her roots and provided stories that she eagerly shared with her family. Rhonda's life was a testament to the power of a smile and the joy of laughter. Her infectious positivity and genuine love for simply being with others made her a cherished companion to many. Her laughter was a melody that brightened even the darkest of days, and her presence was a comfort that enveloped all in warmth. Rhonda is survived by her adoring family: her mother, Jean; her three children, Tom Nichol (Amy), Jesse Nichol (Esther), and Teresa Caldwell (Mike); her treasured 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life; her loving sisters, Tonya Hebel (Tim) and Julie Wirgau (Glenn); and her steadfast best friend, Kim, whose unwavering support was a true testament to the bond they shared. In honoring Rhonda's life, a service will be held on April 10, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Schwarz Funeral Home Chapel, located at 608 S Park Blvd, Freeport, IL. Family, friends, and all whose lives Rhonda touched are invited to join in celebrating her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Friends Forever Animal Shelter, reflecting Rhonda's love for animals and her generous spirit. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Rhonda's best friend, Kim, whose selfless support and unwavering friendship provided comfort and strength during Rhonda's toughest times. Your love and kindness were a beacon of hope and a testament to true friendship.
