Rex Alexander Magann, a beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend, passed away on September 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, talent, and love. Born on June 15, 1994, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Rex was a beacon of creativity, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to truly know him.
Rex was the cherished son of Mrs. Lourdes Herner and Dr. Timothy & Mrs. Shantell Magann. He is survived by his loving parents and a devoted family that includes his siblings: Gigi Galiana, KiKi Curtin and her husband Jack Curtin, Sebastian Magann and his wife Joanne Magann, Heather Magann, Daniel Magann and his wife Julia Magann, and Richard Magann. His paternal grandmother, Patricia Elam, along with numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and close family friends, also mourn his loss.
Rex's family will celebrate his life on October 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Resurrection Catholic Church, located at 6819 Krycul Ave., Riverview, FL 33578.
Rex's siblings have shared heartfelt tributes that highlight his profound impact on their lives. His baby sister, Heather;
“ Rex was my older brother, and I always thought he was the kindest and coolest person I had ever met. He inspired my love of music. If I hadn’t seen his passion for playing guitar and singing, I wouldn’t have kept singing and playing piano myself. I always wished we could spend more time together because he had a way of exploring the world that was inspiring to me when we were children. He always led with curiosity and courage, and I followed. As we got older we drifted apart, and I didn’t fully understand the magnitude of his mental illness. You never want to think that a loved one could be hurting so deeply inside. I’m lucky to have seen his soft side and to have had an older brother to show me how to navigate the world. When I think of Rex, all I remember is my kind, gentle, talented brother. I’ll love and miss him forever. “
Sebastian, Rex's brother, reflects on the special bond they shared.
“Growing up, I was the oldest son in the house, the one everyone else looked to. I never had anyone of my own to look up to, until my brother. I saw him only a few times a year, but each visit I arrived determined to become him, adopting his interests, mimicking the way he carried himself, following wherever he led. A less patient person would have found that tiresome. He never did. He made me feel I had a rightful place beside him, and he gave me something I had not known I was missing: the experience of admiring someone and being met with warmth rather than indifference. His life was not an easy one, and these last years asked more of him than most of us will ever understand. Even so, he treated me as he always had. He shaped who I have become more than he ever knew, and he set a standard I have spent my life trying to live up to.”
