In Loving Memory of Rev. Willie "Pete" Hopson It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rev. Willie "Pete" Hopson, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and pastor, who departed this life peacefully at his home on May 11, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on June 2, 1963, in Memphis, Tennessee, Pete was a man whose life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering faith. Pete was the cherished son of the late Martin and Edith Hopson, whose values and love shaped the compassionate and devoted man he became. Predeceased by his parents, Pete carried forward their legacy of kindness and community service, touching countless lives with his spirit. In April of 1985, Pete married his beloved Lynda Cambridge in Orange Mound, where their journey together began. Over the next 40 years, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and shared purpose. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Jasmine and Jessica, and welcomed Dana Hilliard and LaShawn Owens into their family with open arms. Pete’s family was his pride and joy, and he was a guiding light to his two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Reverend Hopson dedicated his life to serving both his community and his faith. As the Pastor of Hope Of Glory Family Christian Center, he was a beacon of hope and a voice of wisdom. His sermons, always delivered with a new suit and a radiant smile, inspired many and left an indelible mark on the people of Orange Mound. Pete's love for teaching scripture was matched only by his willingness to offer guidance and support to those in need, often extending a helping hand wherever he could. Beyond his spiritual duties, Pete found joy and camaraderie as a basketball referee for the Southeastern Conference (SEC), where his fairness and passion for the game earned him respect and admiration. His presence on the court was as significant as his presence in the pulpit—a testament to his diverse talents and unyielding dedication. Pete was a devoted brother to his sisters, Donna, Deborah, and Debra, and his twin brother, Willie "Thump" Hopson, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. His siblings were his lifelong companions, and their shared memories and experiences were a source of joy and strength. In his community, Pete was known not just for his duties as a pastor and referee, but for his warm heart and generous nature. His home was always open, and his counsel was sought by many. He was a man who lived his faith, demonstrating love and compassion in every action. As we celebrate Pete’s life, we remember a man who truly walked his talk—a loving husband, a dedicated father, a cherished brother, and a revered pastor. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched and in the legacy of love and service he leaves behind. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Rev. Willie "Pete" Hopson will be held at his beloved Hope Of Glory Family Christian Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church’s community outreach programs, ensuring that Pete’s legacy of service continues to uplift and inspire. Rev. Willie "Pete" Hopson will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew him.
