Rev. SFC Douglas M. Snowden

Rev. SFC Douglas M. Snowden, a beloved pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, in the comforting presence of his son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Born in Camden, Alabama, on May 1, 1942, he was the cherished son of Annie Pettaway and Rev. Clarence Claiborne. Douglas was a man of profound faith and unwavering commitment. He served his country with distinction in the United States Army, completing two tours in Vietnam and retiring after 21 years of honorable service in 1990. Upon returning from Vietnam, he prioritized education, completing his high school diploma at PJC Adult High and earning an Associate in Theology from the West Florida Baptist Institute. In 1988, Douglas married his beloved Ardella Snowden, who affectionately called him "Sweet Pea." Their union was marked by deep devotion and mutual respect, lasting until Ardella's passing in 2021. Rev. Snowden was a founding memeber of the New Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Later He and His wife,Together, were instrumental in establishing the New Faith Missionary Baptist Church, where they served as Youth Pastors for over two decades. Douglas's commitment to his faith and community was further demonstrated by his lifelong membership in the NAACP and active participation in the NWFBA. Douglas's career extended beyond military service; he was a dedicated employee of Sears Roebuck, retiring after 20 years of service. Known for being a man of few words, Douglas's integrity was reflected in his straightforward communication style, always meaning what he said and saying what he meant. Preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Savannah, Mamie, and Tinne, his brothers James and Morris, and his beloved wife Ardella, Douglas leaves behind a legacy of love and service. He is survived by his devoted son, Reginald Nelson, four grandchildren—LaDarrian (Antrica) Nelson, Regina Nelson, Keiara Hodges, and Geneis Peasant—and three great-grandchildren, Journey, Andreus, and Amoraye. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. Rev. SFC Douglas M. Snowden will be remembered as a devoted family man, a steadfast servant of God, and a dedicated community leader. His life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and perseverance.
