It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Reubatu Iotamwa on April 15, 2026, at the age of 58. Reubatu was born on September 30, 1967, in the picturesque village of Arorae, Kiribati, blessed to be the son of Iotamwa Rebite. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity, having touched the lives of all who knew him. Reubatu's life was a testament to dedication and love, both in his personal and professional endeavours. At the tender age of 19, he embarked on a promising career with Telecom Service Kiribati Limited. His commitment and diligence quickly led to his promotion, and by 1986, he had become one of the esteemed senior staff members at TSK. His career was not merely a path of professional achievement but also a reflection of his strong work ethic and his constant commitment to providing for his family. In 2001, Reubatu married the love of his life, Reea, on a serene Christmas Eve, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. Their union was blessed with children who now reside in both New Zealand and Kiribati. Together, Reubatu and Reea nurtured a loving family environment, raising their children with the same principles of compassion and care that defined Reubatu's character. Reubatu's profound love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a devoted father and a doting grandfather to his 17 cherished grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He found joy in simple pleasures, especially in fishing, a pastime that allowed him to connect with nature and attain peace. His passion for martial arts showcased his discipline and determination, attributes that he carried into every facet of his life. Beyond his professional and personal accomplishments, Reubatu will be remembered for his kind heart and generous spirit. He had an uncanny ability to uplift others, always ready with a helping hand or a comforting word. His life was a beacon of hope and warmth, nurturing relationships with friends and family alike. Reubatu's departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by his beloved wife, Reea, his children, and his grandchildren. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering kindness, a legacy that will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn the loss of Reubatu Iotamwa, we also celebrate a life that was richly lived, a life that made a difference in the lives of many. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
