It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Renee Young, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on . Born on July 18, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, Renee lived a life rich in love, compassion, and service to others. Renee was the cherished daughter of Mae Frances McLaughlin and Clarence Aaron Young. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kenyatta Dorshay Mitchell, her parents, her brothers William and Tony McLaughlin, and her dear grandparents Virginia and Jessie Crook. Her beloved Aunt Linda Lee Crook also preceded her in death, but their memories remain vivid in Renee’s heart. Renee’s journey of education began at Ascot Elementary, followed by Carver Junior High and Thomas Jefferson John C. Fremont High School. Her dedication to learning was unwavering, as she received her Associate Teacher Credential from Los Angeles Southwest College and later returned to Redlands Adult School to complete her high school diploma. Her professional life was a testament to her commitment to helping others. She worked as a Nursing Assistant at The Veterans Hospital, a Caregiver in the Department of Aging Home Health, and an Assistant Teacher, Teacher, and Site Facilitator at the Fredrick Douglas Child Development Center. Additionally, Renee contributed her expertise to the Los Angeles Unified School District as a Special Needs Assistant and worked with the Department of Children and Family Services as a Relative Caregiver. Later in her life, she moved to San Bernardino, CA, where she served the San Bernardino College District as a Custodian and worked part-time with the San Bernardino YMCA CAPS Program as a Youth Leader. Renee was an active advocate for Breast and Prostate Cancer survivors, tirelessly organizing events to raise awareness and support for these causes. Her dedication to these causes was a reflection of her generous spirit and deep empathy for those in need. Her hobbies reflected her love for bringing people together. She delighted in planning family events like "MAE DAY," where she gathered friends and family in joyful celebration. Her passion for making others happy was palpable in her unique game, "THE CIRCLE OF LOVE," ensuring everyone left her gatherings with a smile and a gift. Renee's courageous spirit, infectious sense of humor, and passionate love for life were evident in every interaction she had. Renee leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through her son, Leonel Lewis Jr. , Daughter in-law Tirza Lewis, her grandchildren Michael J. Ficklin III, Simone Cheatom, Faith Cheatom, Leah Lewis, and Layla Lewis, as well as her goddaughters Renee Martinez and Shaquienta Henry, and godsons Anthony and Antwon Rice. Renee Young’s life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished by her family and friends forever. As we celebrate Renee’s remarkable life, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with those she loved dearly.
