October 16, 1970 — May 1, 2026
With heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Reginald Whickum, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on May 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 16, 1970, in Greenwood, Mississippi, Reginald's journey was marked by an unwavering devotion to his family, a steadfast faith, and a vibrant spirit that touched all who knew him.
Reginald was the cherished son of Willie and Joann Whickum of Greenwood, Mississippi, who survive him and hold dear the countless memories shared over the years. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Leroy and Rebecca Streeter, paternal grandparents Hosey Whickum and Georgia Simmons, his sister Valerie Whickum, his son Reginald Spivey, and his stepmother Annie Whickum. His legacy of love and laughter continues through his devoted wife, Shenita Whickum of Memphis, Tennessee, and his children: Reginald Burch (Jennifer), Corey Spivey (Jasmine), Erica Spivey, Lacedric Spivey, Avery Wilson, Randal Wilson, Ondrea Wilson, Jameka Jackson, all of Greenwood, Mississippi, Jamal Wilson of Memphis, Tennessee, and Patrice Banks (Brandon) of Horn Lake, Mississippi. Reginald's life was further enriched by his two sisters, Renita Whickum of Southaven, Mississippi, and Jeanette West Brown of Greenwood, Mississippi; his brothers, Sammie West and Charlie West, both of Portland, Oregon; and his brother-in-law, Isiah Slaughter of Webb, Mississippi. His spirit will continue to guide his 36 grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a vast circle of friends.
A proud graduate of Amanda Elzy High School, Class of 1988, Reginald embarked on his professional journey with dedication and integrity, working for many years with Johnson Control in Canton, Mississippi, before pursuing his entrepreneurial dreams. His career was defined by his strong work ethic and his ability to inspire those around him.
Reginald's commitment to his faith was unwavering. From a young age, he dedicated his life to Christ at Second Mt. Pleasant MB Church under the guidance of Reverend Ezell Smith. His faith was his guiding light, a source of strength and peace throughout his life.
Beyond his professional and spiritual achievements, Reginald was a man of many passions. As a founding member and original vice president of the 49 South Riders motorcycle club, he later served as sergeant at arms, fostering a community bound by camaraderie and shared adventures. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, and the open road on his beloved motorcycle. But above all, it was the time spent with his family that he cherished most.
Reginald's warmth and kindness were his trademarks, his quick smile and ready wit a warmth to those around him. He had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, leaving a legacy of generosity and compassion that will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Reginald Whickum will be held on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Harvest Church, located at 3801 Hwy 49 South, Greenwood, MS 38930. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable man whose impact on this world will be felt for years to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Reginald's memory to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to his generous spirit and unwavering commitment to helping others. Reginald's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him, guiding us with love and laughter until we meet again.
