July 21, 1935 – April 3, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Reginald P. Gage, II, treasured husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Reg passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Born on July 21, 1935, in the city of Chicago, Illinois, Reg was the beloved son of Reginald P. Gage, Evelyn Gerisch and stepfather Walter Gerisch. From a young age, he exhibited a zest for life and a curiosity that would guide him through a remarkable journey of service and discovery.
After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Reg pursued higher education at the University of Hawaii, where he earned a bachelor’s degree, laying the foundation for a lifelong connection with the islands after first arriving at the age of 10.
In 1962, Reg married the love of his life, Sandra, embarking on a beautiful partnership that flourished for 63 wonderful years. Together, they raised two incredible children, Reginald P. Gage, III, and Vivian Lani Gage, fostering a family environment rich with laughter, love, and shared adventures.
Reg dedicated 26 honorable years of service to his country in the U.S. Navy Reserve, achieving the rank of Lt. Commander before retiring. His naval career was marked by dedication and a commitment to excellence, qualities that he continued into his career as a real property appraiser for the County of Kauai.
A man of varied interests and talents, Reg was an avid scuba diver and shell collector. His passion for the ocean and its treasures was a testament to his adventurous spirit and his profound respect for nature. His fascination with the marine world was rivaled only by his love of Hawaiian history and culture, which he expressed through his active involvement with the Kauai Historical Society, serving as its past president, and his participation in organizations such as the Hawaiian Malacological Society, the Waioli Corporation, National Tropical Botanical Gardens, and Hui O Laka.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Reg were often captivated by his wit and his generous spirit, always eager to share his extensive knowledge of Hawaii's rich history and natural beauty. His legacy of education and conservation will continue to inspire future generations.
Reg's life was further enriched by his role as a grandfather ("Pops") to Brandon and Jared Schau, and Abigail and Gabriella Gage, and as a great-grandfather to Piper Schau. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and his love for them was evident in every story he shared and every moment he cherished!
In keeping with Reg's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor his life. The family kindly requests that donations be made in Reg's memory to the Kauai Historical Society (4396 Rice St #101, Lihue, HI 96766), an organization close to his heart.
Reg leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, love, and joy. While he will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife Sandra, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and all who had the honor of knowing him, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
May he rest in eternal peace.
