With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Reginald Burl Ballard, affectionately known as Reggie, who departed this world on June 8, 2026, at his cherished home in Forest, Virginia. Born on March 11, 1944, in Mt. Holly, North Carolina, Reggie's life was a tapestry woven with love, adventure, and dedication to family, friends, and community. Reggie was the beloved son of the late Homer and Nadine Painter Ballard. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother James Ballard, and sisters Phyllis Warnock and Reba Drye. Yet, his legacy continues through those he leaves behind: his devoted special friend and companion of 15 years, Clarice Carter of Forest, Virginia; three children; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His surviving siblings are brother David L. Ballard of Charlotte, NC, and sister Delores Gill of Freeburg, Illinois, along with numerous nieces and nephews. whom will forever hold him in their hearts. A proud alumnus of Mt. Holly High School, Class of 1962, Reggie pursued his education at Castle Heights Military Academy in Tennessee and completed his collegiate journey at Western Carolina. An outstanding athlete, Reggie excelled in football, a passion that mirrored his love for sports throughout his life. He was inducted into the Mt. Holly Sports Hall of Fame in August 2021 for his outstanding athletic abilities in football. Reginald served his country with honor in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1964 to 1966. His dedication to service transitioned seamlessly into a 30-year career with Duke Energy at the Riverbend Steam Station in Mt. Holly, where he was known for his hard work and commitment. Reggie's faith was a guiding light in his life. Raised in the Mt. Holly Pentecostal Holiness Church, he found a spiritual home in a church in Forest, Virginia, where he was an active member. A man of many talents and interests, Reggie found joy in watching sports, traveling, woodworking, and the freedom of the skies. A proud member of the Sentimental Journey, an airplane organization, he spent countless hours flying his treasured 1953 Piper Tri-Pacer. Reggie's love for adventure extended beyond the clouds as he cherished moments reminiscing with family and friends, sharing stories, and bringing laughter with his well-timed jokes. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Reggie's life at a memorial service on [insert date] at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, located at 1508 Charles Raper Jonas Highway, Mount Holly, NC 28120. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Clarice Carter, Woodlawn Funeral Home, and Hilcrest Gardens Cemetary for their exceptional support in organizing this service. As we gather to honor Reggie's remarkable life, we remember the warmth of his smile, the depth of his kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. His spirit will continue to inspire us all.
