Rebecca Morse Hout, cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, in the comforting embrace of her family. Born on May 27, 1952, in Tacoma, Washington, Rebecca was a beacon of warmth and wisdom throughout her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew her. Born to Richard and Rosalie Morse, Rebecca was the eldest of four children, paving the way for her siblings with her characteristic blend of intelligence and kindness. She shared a close bond with her sisters Sarah Moyer and Maureen Ciotoli, and her brother Richard Morse, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Though she was predeceased by her parents, her husband Frederick Hout, her brother Richard, and her sister Maureen, Rebecca's spirit lives on through the family she cherished deeply. Rebecca’s academic journey began at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, where she graduated in 1970. She continued to shine at Fordham University, earning her Bachelor’s degree in 1974, and later at Albany Law School where she completed her Juris Doctorate in 1977. Her passion for law led her to the Schenectady Public Defender’s office, where she began her illustrious career. Rebecca’s dedication and expertise were recognized throughout her tenure as Altamont Village Justice, a position she held with distinction for 30 years until her retirement in 2022. Her professional accomplishments were paralleled by her commitment to her community and personal passions. An active member of the Train Station Quilters, Rebecca found joy and companionship in her quilting circle, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her generous spirit. She was a devoted fan of the NY Giants and Red Sox, never missing a game and sharing her enthusiasm with friends and family. Her love for the local Scottish Games Festival and family vacations to York Beach, Maine, added vibrant chapters to her life story, filled with laughter and unforgettable memories. Rebecca met the love of her life, Frederick Hout, through a local band, Badge, in which her brother played. Their marriage on May 23, 1981, marked the beginning of a partnership built on unwavering loyalty and shared dreams. Together, they raised two children, Abigail Mason and Stephen Hout, instilling in them the values of integrity, compassion, and resilience. Rebecca's greatest joy was her grandson Noah, with whom she shared a birthday—a bond that brought immense pride and happiness to her life. Her family, including her daughter Abigail and son-in-law Nathaniel, son Stephen and daughter-in-law Rachel, sister Sarah and brother-in-law David, sister-in-law Eugenia and brother-in-law James, brother-in-law Anthony and sister-in-law Lori, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, will carry forward her legacy of love and service. Rebecca's presence in the Altamont community was marked by her generosity, wisdom, and unwavering dedication. Her passing leaves a profound void, yet her spirit remains a guiding light for all who were fortunate to know her. A celebration of Rebecca’s life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Fredendall Funeral Home, located at 199 Main St, Altamont, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, an organization close to Rebecca's heart. Rebecca Morse Hout lived a life full of love, laughter, and meaningful contributions. Her memory will forever be treasured, and her life celebrated for the remarkable impact she made on the world around her.
