In Loving Memory

Rebecca Hinkle
February 12, 1957 — October 21, 2026
Rebecca "Becky" Hinkle, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, supported by the love of her life, “Poppy” Phil. Born on February 12, 1957, in Centerville, Iowa, she lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication to those around her.
Becky was the treasured daughter of Virgil and Irene Crow, who predeceased her along with her brother, Gary Crow. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 40 years, Phillip Hinkle, with whom she shared a fulfilling life since their marriage on December 21, 1985. Her first union blessed her with two wonderful children, Natasha (Andy) Joiner and Tyler Chance (Ashley) Hinkle, who, along with their families, were her pride and joy. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren—Chelsey (Steve) Rust, Kylee, Jaxton, and Bodie Joiner; Scarlett, Brendan, and Charlie Hinkle—and her two great-grandchildren, Blaise Sloan and Sage Rust.
A woman of great intellect, Becky graduated from Centerville High School in 1974 and pursued higher education at Indian Hills, earning an Associate degree in 1976. She went on to obtain a Bachelor degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 1981, followed by a Master of Education. Her passion for learning and teaching led her to a dedicated career in education, beginning in 1981 as a Remedial Reading teacher in Centerville Community Schools. She later taught Kindergarten at Mystic School, leaving a profound impact on countless young lives over her 21 years of service to the Centerville Community School District. Following a significant move to Arkansas in 2004, Becky continued her teaching journey as a classroom teacher and eventually serving as the Reading First Coach for McDonald County Schools before her retirement in 2017. “Mrs. Hinkle” had shaped young learners for a total of 33 years.
Becky was a dedicated volunteer with the Food 2 Families Ministry and a baptized member of the Eastgate Church of Christ in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Her faith and community service were integral parts of her life. She had a nurturing spirit, evident in her love for gardening, sewing, cooking, and crafting with her grandchildren. Always adventurous, she traveled widely with friends, while "Poppy," held the fort at home, eagerly awaiting stories from her travels.
Known affectionately as "MeMaw," Becky was a beacon of love and kindness. Her home was a sanctuary for all, including wildlife and pets, and her heart was always open to anyone in need of extra love. Her warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
A celebration of Becky's life will be held on November 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at The Ritz, 119 E. Van Buren Street, Centerville, IA 52544. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Sharon Chapel Cemetery Association in her memory, continuing her legacy of caring for those she admired that came before her.
Rebecca Hinkle's life was a testament to love, family, and selfless dedication to others. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, forever lighting their paths with her ornery and loving presence.

God’s Garden
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
