Raymond Wayne Hilderbrandt, aged 85, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, after a brave battle with illness. Born on January 29, 1941, in Muskegon, Michigan, Ray was the beloved son of Bernard and Amy Hilderbrandt. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that touched all who knew him.
Ray met the love of his life, Patsy Ruth Davis, and they were married on July 15, 1960, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter, welcoming three cherished children into their family: Raymond W. Hilderbrandt Jr. (Brenda), Richard A. Hilderbrandt (Janice), and Michelle R. Hilderbrandt (Sam). Ray was predeceased by his beloved wife Patsy, with whom he shared countless cherished memories.
A proud veteran, Ray served his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963, specializing in supply. His commitment to service continued throughout his life as a life member of the American Legion Post 69 in Whitehall, Michigan, and the VFW Auxiliary Post 1329 in Hart, Michigan.
Ray dedicated his professional life to his work at Sealed Power in Muskegon, where he retired as a Dyno Technician. In his later years, he found joy in serving the Shelby School District as a bus driver, where he shared stories and smiles with the children he transported.
Ray's passion for life extended to his many hobbies. As an avid bowler, he participated in numerous national tournaments, showcasing his skill and sportsmanship. His love of the outdoors was evident in his dedication to hunting, a passion he pursued without missing a single season.
Family was the cornerstone of Ray's life. His heart was most full when surrounded by his beloved grandchildren—Rachel Anderson (Eric), Andrew Hilderbrandt (Devon), Abrianne Coon, and Terina Sadana (Hector)—and his many great-grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, playing games, or simply enjoying each other's company, Ray's love for his family was profound and unwavering. He also found joy in the companionship of his faithful dog and cat, and in the quiet moments spent watching birds from his favorite recliner.
In remembrance of Ray's vibrant life, a private funeral service will be held for close family members. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Trinity Hospital, as well as his compassionate home care nurse and caregivers who supported Ray with dignity and kindness in his final days.
