Raymond "Pete" W. Anderson Jr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Raymond "Pete" W. Anderson Jr., who left us on September 5, 2026. Born on March 30, 1951, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Pete lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love. His strong spirit remained unyielding as he courageously battled cancer until his final moments at Wheeling Hospital. Pete was the beloved son of the late Raymond and Margaret (Mankey) Anderson. His legacy is carried on by his devoted wife of 53 years, Jewel Rae Rodriguez Anderson, who stood by his side through all of life's journeys. Their love story remains an inspiration to their children, Shawn (Holly) Anderson and Alexa (Michael Short) White, who continue to carry forward their father's remarkable values. Pete was a cherished brother to Randy (Betty) Anderson and a proud grandfather to Ryan and Kathleen Anderson, and Mackenzie, Zack, and Ethan Short. His extended family includes his brother-in-law Larry (Susie) Rodriguez, sister-in-law Ramona Rodriguez, as well as many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart: Dustin Rodriguez, Autumn (Chris) Ward and their children Zander, Eli, and Milo Ward, Amy, Elijah, and Josiah Earnest, Angie, Ethan, and Emily Iams, Emily (Jim) VanDevender, and Anita (Paul) Vitola. After graduating from Waynesburg High School in 1969, Pete answered the call to serve his country, joining the Military Intelligence Division of the United States Army, where he served honorably from 1972 until 1978. His service did not end there; upon returning home, Pete pursued a degree in education from West Liberty State College, which paved the way for a distinguished career as an educator and coach at John Marshall High School. He was known for his unwavering dedication to his students and athletes, always going above and beyond to ensure their success and well-being. Pete's commitment to service extended beyond the classroom. As a volunteer firefighter for the Washington Lands Volunteer Fire Department, he demonstrated his selflessness and bravery, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His life was characterized by a profound kindness and generosity that left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Pete had a unique gift for making others feel welcome and valued, a testament to his warm and compassionate nature. Though we mourn his passing, Pete's spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched. In lieu of a traditional service, the family will announce a memorial celebration of his life at a later date, providing an opportunity for all who knew and loved Pete to gather in remembrance.
