Raymond Merle Potter

May 27, 1945 — May 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Raymond Merle Potter, who departed this world on May 25, 2026, just two days shy of his 81st birthday. Raymond was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, a testament to the bonds and cherished relationships he cultivated throughout his life. Raymond was born on May 27, 1945, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to Jay and Lurline (Hester) Potter. He was the youngest of a lively brood, and though he was predeceased by his parents and siblings—Betty Denton, Margaret Woodard, Darlene Wilson, Katherine Peterson, Terry Potter, and Oren Potter—their memories and shared experiences remained vibrant in his heart. In the bustling town of Coweta, Oklahoma, Raymond found his lifelong partner, Barbara Gail Baker. They married on a crisp December day in 1967 and embarked on a remarkable journey that spanned 58 beautiful years. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home full of love and laughter, where they raised their three children—Steven, Dusten, and Amy. Their home became a sanctuary of joy not only for their immediate family but also for friends and extended family members, who were always greeted with open arms. Professionally, Raymond was an esteemed Aircraft Mechanic within the Tulsa Aviation industry. His tenure at Boeing was marked by numerous achievements, none more significant than his contributions to the Space Shuttle program—a project that filled him with immense pride. Beyond his technical expertise, Raymond was a beloved local coach in Coweta. He possessed a unique talent for nurturing young athletes, inspiring them to achieve their best on the field while imparting lessons that extended well beyond sports. A devout man, Raymond was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment. His passion for coaching extended into the local little leagues, where he helped shape future football stars with patience and enthusiasm. In his leisure, Raymond enjoyed working on his favorite cars, a hobby that brought him endless joy and satisfaction. Raymond leaves behind his devoted wife, Barbara, and their children: Steven and his wife Lenita, Dusten, and Amy. He was a cherished grandfather to Tyler Self, Cole and Cassie Erwin, Laney Erwin, Payton Erwin, and Mitchell and Gaby Potter. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Violet and Christopher Potter, who will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather's love and accomplishments. Raymond also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, who will fondly remember their uncle's gentle spirit and infectious smile. Though Raymond's physical presence will be sorely missed, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and community, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. A celebration of Raymond's life will take place at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor a man who gave so much to so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta, in memory of Raymond's enduring faith and commitment to his community. May Raymond Merle Potter rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love of those who cherish him.
