Raymond Hull

May 23, 1948 — October 9, 2026

Raymond Hull, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026, under hospice care after a short battle. Born on May 23, 1948, in Downey, California, Ray lived a life rich with love, laughter, and adventure. As a young man, Ray graduated from Downey High School in 1966. Following his high school years, he served his country with pride and dedication, a chapter in his life that instilled in him a deep sense of responsibility and honor. Ray was first married to Christine Hull, with whom he welcomed two daughters, Melody and Jennifer, in Florida. The family later moved to Inyokern, California, where they completed their family with the birth of their son, Tom. In Inyokern, Ray and Christine nurtured their growing family, surrounded by the beauty of the Californian landscape until their children grew up and set out on their own paths. Ray was predeceased by his first wife, Christine Hull, and his son-in-law, Jon Smith. He is survived by his loving spouse, Susan Challenor, who was his steadfast companion in the later years of his life. He leaves behind his cherished children, Melody Hull, Jennifer Smith, and Tom Hull, as well as his brother, Steve Hull. Ray was a devoted grandfather to six grandchildren: Stephanie Pauletto, Brianna Hoelle, Jacob Roland, Christopher Flickinger, Maddie Stethos, and Lily Smith. He also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness in his later years. A man of simple pleasures, Ray was known for his love of Pepsi and whiskey, often found with his feet propped up in a chair, enjoying the peacefulness of his surroundings. He was an avid hunter and spent the remainder of his life on a sprawling 500-acre farm, where he found joy in tending to chickens, herding goats, and riding recreational vehicles with his grandsons. In memory of Ray's service and commitment to his country, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization close to Ray's heart. A private funeral ceremony will be held, in accordance with the family's wishes. As the family navigates this difficult time, they extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate workers they encountered through the hospital and hospice care, whose kindness and support were invaluable. Raymond Hull will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering love for his family, and the legacy of warmth and kindness he leaves behind. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
