Raymond Harmon
August 27, 1956 — March 30, 2026
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Raymond Harmon, a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this life on March 30, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on August 27, 1956, in the charming town of Kinterbish, Alabama, Raymond was the cherished son of Jessie and Katie Portis.
Raymond's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication, woven through the hearts of all who knew him. A proud graduate of Sumter County High, class of 1974, Raymond carried his education forward into a long-standing career at Mannignton, where he devotedly worked for 15 years before retiring in 2019. Known for his steadfast commitment and leadership, he was a guiding light on the second shift team, inspiring those around him with his work ethic and integrity.
Raymond was a lifelong member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where he found community and faith, nourishing his spirit and extending his kindness outward to everyone he met. His generosity and ability to make others feel welcome were hallmarks of his character, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Katie Portis, his son Domani Harmon, his daughter Deangela Bell-Harmon, and his stepson Detrick Bell. He is survived by a loving family who carry his memory forward: his son, Raphael (Jamellah) Bollar of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Ramonia Washington; and his stepdaughter, Alicia Bell of Huntsville, Alabama. Raymond's legacy lives on in his four treasured grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Raymond is also survived by his brothers, James Portis (Shelia) of Parkland, Florida; Torris Portis; and Luther (Sophia) Portis of Boston, Massachusetts; and his sisters, Alice Portis-Patterson of Racine, Wisconsin, and Dawn Webb (Shaun) of Boston, Massachusetts. His family tree branches further with his two uncles, Reverend Robert (Sealeaner) Harmon of Oxford, Mississippi, and Arthur (Zenoria) Harmon of Racine, Wisconsin, as well as his favorite Aunt Mary Thomas of Mobile, Alabama.
In his leisure time, Raymond found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His favorite pastime was binge-watching Westerns and all things sports. He had a knack for playing pool and cherished the moments spent laughing and talking with friends, perpetually ready to lighten the mood with his infectious humor and welcoming spirit.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who provided compassionate care and support during this difficult time. Raymond's life was a testament to love, kindness, and the strength of family bonds, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
As we remember Raymond Harmon, let us celebrate the life he lived, the love he shared, and the laughter he brought into the world. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
