In Loving Memory

Raymond Funches
June 10, 1975 — May 6, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Raymond Funches, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world on May 6, 2026, at the age of 50. Born on June 10, 1975, Raymond's life was a testament to joy, strength, and the beauty of human connection. Though his battle with illness was challenging, he faced it with remarkable courage and grace, ultimately being called home on a serene Wednesday night.
Raymond was a cherished son to Jeanette Funches, who remains with us, and he now joins his father, Roy Funches Sr., in peaceful rest. His legacy is lovingly continued through his daughter Nia, her husband DaQuan, and his three adored grandchildren, Kylie, LaRon, and DaQuan. His siblings, Beverly, Chioke, and Antonio, will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Having grown up in Detroit, Michigan, Raymond was a proud graduate of Denby High School. His early years were marked by a steadfast dedication to service as he joined the U.S. Navy in his teens. He embraced the Navy life with enthusiasm, forming lifelong friendships and demonstrating his commitment to his country before his discharge.
Raymond was a man of many talents, most notably as one of the greatest barbers in his neighborhood—a skill that earned him admiration and respect. His career journey later led him to contribute a decade of hard work to the family-owned business, VIP Wear, where his presence was cherished.
Beyond his professional life, Raymond was a beacon of joy and laughter. His warm smile and contagious laugh lit up any room he entered. A social soul, he reveled in playing cards and treasured every moment spent with family. His favorite place was Fortale, Florida, where he found peace and happiness among the sun and sand.
In the eyes of those who knew him, Raymond was an embodiment of an outgoing personality, always ready to share a story or lend an ear. His ability to connect with others was genuine and heartfelt, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
In honor of Raymond's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. During this difficult time, the family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Beaumont Hospital for their compassion and kindness, which provided solace and support in his final days.
Raymond Funches leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. His memory will forever be a guiding light to those who loved him, reminding us to cherish every moment and to live with the same warmth and generosity he so freely gave.
