In Loving Memory
Ray Randall Boulton
September 18, 1932 — March 27, 2026
With heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Ray Randall Boulton, who departed this world on March 27, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by love and the cherished memories he leaves behind. Born on September 18, 1932, in Bountiful, Utah, to James Richard Boulton and Camilla Randall, Ray embodied the virtues of kindness, dedication, and warmth throughout his 93 years.
Ray was predeceased by his devoted parents, his beloved wife RaNae Boulton, his eight siblings—Gordon, Meryl, Glen, Robert, Hal, Wanda Brudett, Maurine Nye, and Adarene Riley-Hill—and his grandson, Troy Boulton. His legacy, however, continues to flourish through his children, Lisa and Jordan, his stepchildren Wendy and Michael, his daughter-in-law Katie, and his grandchildren Traeden (and his wife Ellie), Elison, and Emery.
Ray's early years were shaped by a robust education at Davis High School, from where he graduated in 1950. His sense of duty led him to join the Air Force straight out of high school, where he was stationed mostly in Bermuda. Although he never saw war and thus humbly refrained from calling himself a veteran, his service was a testament to his character and commitment.
After his military service, Ray found his calling in the telecommunications industry, dedicating 47 years to Mountain Bell, which later became US West and ultimately Qwest, before retiring in 2005. His work ethic, exemplified by his daily commutes on the UTA bus to downtown regardless of the weather, left an indelible mark on his children, teaching them the value of dedication and perseverance.
Ray's personal life was marked by profound love and companionship. After a brief early marriage that ended in divorce, he found his soulmate in RaNae while working at the phone company. They married on May 11, 1974, and their union was blessed and sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on February 14, 1976. Together, they shared a passion for their faith as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where Ray contributed his melodious voice to the choir and supported RaNae in the Library.
An ardent BYU fan, Ray's enthusiasm for sports was infectious, fostering a love for the Cougars in his son and grandson by sharing countless football and basketball games together. His sporting spirit extended to the golf course, where he found joy and camaraderie with friends weekly. In his earlier years, Ray was also an accomplished square dancer, proudly displaying numerous medals as testaments to his skill.
Ray's love for life was matched by his love for people. He was known as a kindhearted man who selflessly supported his children and those around him. His integrity and unwavering support were his hallmarks.
Ray's passing leaves a void but also a wealth of treasured memories. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Nick, Heather, and Claudia with Quality Hospice for the compassionate care provided in Ray's final days.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held on April 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Farmington Pointe Ward Chapel, located at 905 Foxhunter Drive, Farmington, UT. As we honor Ray, we encourage you to share a story or a note with someone you love, preferably on BYU paper, capturing the spirit of generosity and connection that Ray so cherished.
Ray Randall Boulton will be deeply missed, yet his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.
