Ray Charles Adams

It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Ray Charles Adams, who departed this life on July 14, 2026, at the age of 70. Ray was born on June 18, 1956, in the charming town of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, to the late Essie Mae Adams and James Alford. Ray was a beloved father, brother, and friend, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Leion Adams, Deion Adams, Jessie Tymes, Sonny Boy Adams, and Robert Alford, along with two sisters, Carla Adams and Maggie Tymes. Though their loss was deeply felt, Ray's life was continually enriched by the enduring love of his surviving family. Ray is survived by his cherished children, Elizabeth (Christopher) Darty and Ray (Ashley) Adams, who were the pride and joy of his life. He was a devoted bonus father, to Cliff Welch, Travis Welch, and Carla Jones always supporting and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. He is also survived by a large and loving family, including twenty-one siblings: Arthur (Joyce) Harris Jr., Willie (Diane) Harris, Daniel Adams, Lonzo Williams, Stanley (Vanessa) Adams, Wilmer (John L) Smiley, Gloria Adams, Willenner (Lawrence) Thompson, Georgia (Timmy) Mangum, Juanita Adams, Andrea (O’Brian) Hubbard, Monroe (Laraine) Alford, Thomas Alford, Norma Martin, Barbara (Willie) Hudson, Rudolph Alford, Gwen Bates, Walter Alford, Diane Powell, Linda Adams, and Anthony (Crystal) Alford. Each of them held a special place in Ray's heart, and he cherished the moments shared with them. Ray's journey in life was marked by a commitment to hard work and dedication. He graduated from the Kentucky Job Corp Center in 1976 with a degree in Plumbing, and he went on to work as a butcher at Wilson Meat Market before dedicating many years to maintenance work at Tyson Foods and Sanderson Farms. He retired in July 2018, leaving behind a legacy of reliability and a strong work ethic. Ray's vibrant personality was evident to all who knew him. He was known for his quick wit, kindness, generosity, and a warm smile that could light up a room. His love of God was a guiding force in his life, inspiring those around him to live with compassion and grace. In his free time, Ray was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing volleyball, softball, football, and tennis, embracing the camaraderie and joy that sports bring. His favorite football teams were Jackson State University and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he could often be found cheering them on with unwavering passion. In January 1979, Ray married Annette Welch and together they welcomed their daughter Elizabeth in 1982. Later, Ray shared a marriage with Annette Walker, and they welcomed their son Ray in 1986. His family was the center of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Ray touched the lives of many, and his memory will be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life lived with love, humor, and a generous spirit.
