Ray "Butch" Cochran
February 27, 1948 — October 30, 2026
Ray "Butch" Cochran, 78, of Grapeville, passed away, at home, on October 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on February 27, 1948, in Wyles. Ray was the youngest of six children to Jesse and Nellie (Clegg) Cochran.
Ray was a proud Navy veteran who dedicated his life to the service of others, both during his military years and throughout his civilian career. His work ethic was unmatched, having been employed at Volkswagen and various security jobs. After retiring from Lowes in Greensburg, he worked part-time as a night stocker at Latrobe Walmart up until his illness.
Ray's life was filled with simple joys and meaningful commitments. He found peace and contentment in praying to the Lord everyday. He enjoyed fishing and spent countless hours on his back porch, feeding and observing his fish pond, birds, and squirrels that visited his sanctuary. A true family man, Ray adored spending time with his loved ones and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His infectious humor and ability to make others laugh will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gladys (Kauffman) Cochran in 2016, his brother Bud, sister Jean Hutchinson, nephews Dan and Jeff, cousin Larry, and step-granddaughter Sarah McDonald. His legacy lives on through his daughter, Sheri (Dan) McDonald, and son, Chris. Ray was a devoted PapPap to Cody Ray(Candace), Christopher Ray Jr., and Shea, and a proud Great-PapPap to Cameron and Grace. He is also survived by his brothers Jack (Janie), Bill (late Joyce), and John (Doris), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and his beloved cat, "Kitty."
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Chris for his unwavering dedication in caring for his father each day, and to Lori and Jordan from Excela Home Healthcare for their compassion and support.
Ray "Butch" Cochran will be dearly missed, but his warmth, humor, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. He will spend eternity alongside his wife in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Upon Ray's request there will be no public services. Pantalone Funeral Home in Greensburg is in charge of arrangements.
