Raul "Rudy" Calderon, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a beacon of strength and kindness, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2026, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family, who will forever carry his spirit and memory in their hearts.
Born on March 28, 1948, in the vibrant community of San Buena Ventura, California, Raul was the cherished son of Eva Velasquez, who predeceased him. From a young age, Rudy exhibited a passion for learning and a love for music, talents that would enrich his life and the lives of those around him.
Rudy graduated from Oxnard High School and continued his education with an associate’s degree from Valley College in 1973, culminating in a bachelor’s degree from the University of Phoenix in 2002. His dedication to lifelong learning was a testament to his belief in growth and self-improvement.
A proud veteran, Rudy served with honor and distinction in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. During his service in the Republic of Vietnam, he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and the Army Commendation Medal for his exceptional bravery and commitment. Rudy's military service was a profound chapter in his life, one that shaped his values of courage, honor, and service.
On September 30, 1978, Rudy married the love of his life, Norma Calderon, in a joyful ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their union was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Rene Coronado and Regina Harris, who brought immense joy and pride to Rudy. As a grandfather, Rudy adored his grandsons, Kennedy and Christian, delighting in their accomplishments and cherishing every moment spent with them.
Rudy's professional career spanned over three decades with the Gas Company, followed by fourteen years with the Lancaster School District. His leadership, integrity, and dedication left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the community. In 2009, Rudy's commitment to service was recognized by the Dream Center International, reflecting his generosity and desire to uplift those around him.
A gifted musician, Rudy's love for percussion and conga performances was well-known, bringing joy and unity to gatherings. He found peace and happiness in life's simple pleasures, whether watching sunsets by the ocean, listening to live jazz, or sharing laughter with family and friends.
Rudy Calderon will be remembered for his infectious humor, deep compassion, and steadfast faith. His presence enriched the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire future generations.
A celebration of Rudy's life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church located at 918 West Ave. J, Lancaster, CA 93534. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Lancaster United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen in Rudy's honor, ensuring his legacy of helping others continues.
To commemorate Rudy's life and spirit, a memorial fund has been established. Contributions to Raul "Rudy" Calderon's Memorial Fund will support the causes and community projects dear to his heart.
