In Loving Memory

Randy Franklin Walker
October 23, 1956 — September 7, 2026
Randy Franklin Walker, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, left this world peacefully on September 7, 2026, in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 23, 1956, in Blountsville, Alabama, Randy lived a life marked by love, dedication, and an enduring faith.
Randy was the beloved son of Daniel Franklin Walker and Callie Ruth Doty Walker. He was predeceased by his devoted parents and his older brother, Larry Walker. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cyndy, who shared with him a lifetime filled with joy and laughter. Together, Randy and Cyndy raised two beautiful daughters, Paige Gilbert (Jimmy) and Elizabeth Beavers, who, along with five grandchildren—Grayson, Hanalee, Callie, Molly Kate, and Tucker—were the pride and joy of his life.
A graduate of Cleveland High School in 1975, Randy went on to further his education at UAB, earning a Master’s degree in education. His passion for learning and nurturing young minds led to a distinguished 34-year career with the Blount County School system, where he served as a dedicated educator and administrator. Randy's impact on the lives of his students and colleagues was profound and lasting.
Randy was an active and devoted member of Gilliam Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. His faith journey began at the tender age of 16, when he knelt beside his bed and dedicated his life to following The Lord. This pivotal moment paved the way for his lifelong commitment to his faith and community. He also served as a deacon at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Austin Creek Missionary Baptist Church, always striving to uplift and support those around him.
A man of varied interests, Randy found joy in the simple pleasures of life—savoring good coffee and ice cream, listening to gospel and classical music, and tending to his garden. He was an avid fan of Crimson Tide football and the Atlanta Braves, and he delighted in studying the history of the church and traveling. His love for life was infectious, and his sense of humor brought smiles to all who knew him.
Randy's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the UAB O’Neal Cancer Center and the medical professionals who provided compassionate care during his courageous battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Gilliam Springs Baptist Church/missions fund, in honor of Randy’s enduring faith and commitment to his church community.
A service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held on September 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 12:00-2:00 at Gilliam Springs Baptist Church in Arab, Alabama. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor a remarkable man whose legacy of love, faith, and laughter will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
