It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Randel William Dillow, who departed this life on May 8, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on December 14, 1967, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Randel was a beacon of strength and kindness, whose life was dedicated to service, love, and family. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his cherished family, following a courageous battle with ALS.
Randel's life was a testament to devotion and commitment, not only to his family but also to his country and community. Raised by his beloved parents, Nancy Wurful and Duane Dillow, both of whom predeceased him, Randel carried forward their legacy of compassion and integrity. He was a proud graduate of Clintondale High School, where he laid the foundation for a life of learning and service.
His sense of duty led him to a distinguished military career, where he served six honorable years in the Navy before dedicating 31 years to the Air Force. Randel's expertise as a jet engine mechanic at Selfridge Air Force Base from 2001 to 2017, and later at Patrick Space Force Base until 2026, earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Randel was deeply rooted in his community. He served with dedication as a member of the New Haven Fire Department for 16 years, always ready to lend a helping hand and protect those in need. His patriotism was not just a part of his career but was woven into the fabric of his daily life, reflecting in his hobbies and interests, which included a love for music, concerts, cars, and the serenity of the beach.
Randel's personal life was enriched by the love and support of his devoted wife, Karena Ann Dillow, whom he married on February 25, 1989. Their partnership of 37 years was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Melissa (Justin) Strassburg, Kayla (Craig Simmon), and Jacob (Heather) Dillow. Randel's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Noah, Caleb, Vayda, Chevy, Kinsley, Piper, Adyson, and Lydie, who were the light of his life.
He is also survived by his brother, Ryan Wurful, who stood by him through all of life's journeys, offering unwavering support and love.
The family invites those who knew and loved Randel to celebrate his life and legacy. A service will be held on May 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Jowett Funeral Home in New Haven, MI.
