September 28, 1950 — April 11, 2026

With profound sadness and love, we announce the passing of Ralph Thomas Bizzell Jr (Tom), who departed this world on April 10, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on September 27, 1950, in Greeley, Colorado, Tom lived a life dedicated to service, family, and the great outdoors. Tom was the beloved son of Ralph Thomas Bizzell Sr and Mary Magdalene Bizzell (Gray), who preceded him in death, along with his dear sister, Joan Brehon. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enriched the lives of those who knew him. Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Janice Marie Lund, whom he married in 2017. Their union brought them from Livermore, Colorado, to the serene landscapes of Klawock, Alaska, where they shared their lives as seasonal "snowbirds," delighting in the majestic beauty of Alaska during the summer and retreating to the warmth of Tucson in the winter. Tom was a proud graduate of Greeley West High School, Class of 1968, and earned his degree in Anthropology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1974. His early working years were spent with the family Millwright Service, where he contributed to building grain elevators across Colorado and Wyoming. In 1979, he embarked on a distinguished career with the Greeley Fire Department, where his unwavering dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks, eventually retiring as Division Chief in 2007. Tom's commitment to his profession was a testament to his character, and he never missed an opportunity for advancement during his 28 years of service. Beyond his professional achievements, Tom was a man of diverse interests and passions. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace and joy in the natural world. Whether fly fishing, tying flies, hiking, jogging, or simply enjoying a book under the open sky, Tom embraced life with vigor and curiosity. Tom is survived by his son, Jon Bizzell of Casper, Wyoming, and his sisters, Shelby VanBuskirk and Linda McKinney, both residing in Fort Collins, Colorado. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whose lives he touched deeply with his warmth and wisdom. Tom's family will celebrate his life in a private ceremony, honoring his wishes for an intimate gathering. As we remember Tom, let us carry forward his spirit of kindness, dedication, and love for the natural world, cherishing the memories he created with us. Ralph Thomas Bizzell Jr's life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and adventure. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
