Ralph John Bissonette, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on June 17, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY, Ralph was the cherished son of Dolores Sullivan Bissonette and Ralph John Bissonette, Sr. He departed this world at his daughter’s home, cradled in the warmth and love of his family. Ralph’s early years were shaped by the vibrant culture of Brooklyn, where he was raised alongside his siblings. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Joseph, Thomas, William (Guy), and sisters, Sandra, Margaret, and Kathleen Chernoff. He is survived by his brother, Timothy Bissonette, and his wife Donna, and brother-in-law, Bob Chernoff. A man of great dedication and work ethic, Ralph owned and operated his own roofing company for many years, helping to shape the skylines of his community. He was not only a skilled craftsman but also a respected employer who valued integrity and hard work. Ralph’s life was enriched by the deep connections he shared with his family. He is survived by his children, Richard Kirby and partner Jamie Chagnon, Lee Kirby, Michael Kirby, and Laurie Bissonette Reilly and her husband Patrick. He shared a special bond with Linda Laroche, his ex-wife and the mother of his children, and remained a dear friend to Lucy Matis and her sons, Daniel, Matthew, and Justin. His family extended to a cherished group of nieces and nephews, especially his special niece, Maureen Bissonette. Ralph was a proud patriarch, lovingly known as Grandpa to seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. His home was always open to laughter, love, and the gentle scent of freshly brewed coffee paired with his favorite English muffin topped with peanut butter. An avid outdoorsman, Ralph found solace and adventure in hunting and fishing, passions he shared with his family and friends. He was known for his infectious humor, always ready with a joke or a playful prank, brightening the lives of those around him. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Corey Mallon, RN, for his exceptional care, and to the staff at UVMMC Miller 6, especially Joanna, for their compassion. A special thank you is given to Jayme Love, Hospice nurse, whose presence was a comfort during Ralph’s final moments. A private funeral service will be held to honor Ralph’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to UVM Health — Home Health & Hospice, a testament to the care and dignity they provided. Ralph’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering family bonds. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
