Ralph

Ralph Chabaud, a cherished son of New Orleans, LA, was born on February 13, 1950, to the late Marion Chabaud and Joyce Angelette. He passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Ralph's early life was marked by a profound dedication to both education and service. Graduating from St. Aloysius High School in 1968, he went on to earn a BFA from both Louisiana State University and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL. This dual education in the arts laid a robust foundation for a career that would touch many lives. In 1970, Ralph answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army. Over the course of his military career, he served as a Ballistic Meteorologist for the Artillery and was promoted to the role of General's Aid before becoming an Instructor at Fort Sill, OK. His service was recognized with numerous decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Sharpshooter Badge, and Auto Rifle Bar. Upon returning to civilian life, Ralph's artistic talents flourished. As the Art Director at WBRZ, he honed his skills before joining the IATSE Film Union. His creative journey led him to contribute to the art departments of 54 TV shows and movies, including notable works such as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "Steel Magnolias." Ralph's contribution to these projects was a testament to his passion and skill. Between film assignments, he created iconic posters for cultural events such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Crescent City Classic. His vast personal collection of artwork celebrates a deep appreciation for the diverse cultures and expressions of art. Ralph was predeceased by his beloved parents, Marion and Joyce, his brother Allan Chabaud, and his sister Charlotte Scallan. He is survived by his devoted son, Chase Chabaud, his cherished grandson, Carter Chabaud, and his loving sister, Suzanne Chabaud. Ralph's love for his family was profound, and his role as a father and grandfather brought him immense joy. A service to honor Ralph's remarkable life will be held on September 12, 2026, at Greenwood Funeral Home, located at 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Family, friends, and all whose lives Ralph touched are invited to celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, a cause close to Ralph's heart. Ralph's life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and service, each thread woven with care and intention. His memory will forever be a guiding light for his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
