It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Preston H. McClendon, who left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on September 2, 2026. Born on June 20, 1964, in Lyons, Atlanta, Georgia, Preston was a beacon of love and kindness throughout his life.
Preston was the cherished son of the late Elmo McClendon and Ella May Parrish. He was predeceased by his sister Maggie Golden, brother Donald Randy Parrish, daughter Denise (Niecy) Hampton, and son Gary H. Stewart. His legacy of love and strength lives on through his devoted wife of 44 years, Mary McClendon, along with their cherished children, grandchildren, and siblings.
Preston and Mary Nixon began their journey together in 1982, creating a life filled with love, adventure, and family. They built a home where laughter was abundant and memories were cherished.
Throughout his life, Preston contributed to his community through his dedicated work at Pleasantville School, Ocean City City Works, Beasley Point Refinery, and Somers Point Shoprite. Known for his unwavering work ethic and integrity, Preston was held in high regard by all who had the privilege of working with him.
Preston's interests were as vibrant as his personality. A devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he relished every game with excitement. He found joy in exploring flea markets in Berlin, Vineland, and Columbus, as well as frequenting yard sales, always in search of a unique find or a great story. An avid music lover and talented singer, Preston shared his voice with those around him, spreading joy and warmth through song.
A man of gentle strength and profound faith, Preston embodied the essence of kindness and compassion. His presence was a gift to his family and friends, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
The family has chosen to honor Preston’s life with a private funeral ceremony. They express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Donate Life, in honor of Preston’s generous spirit and legacy.
As we remember Preston, we hold close the words of Philippians 4:6-7 NLT: "Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guide your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
Preston H. McClendon will forever be remembered and cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. His spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created.
