Pony was the cherished son of the late Pony Ralph Rice, Sr. and Mary Robertaccio Rice, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion. He carried these values throughout his life, touching the hearts of many with his generosity and warmth. After graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1962, Pony pursued his passion for science and innovation at the University of Louisville Speed School, earning degrees in chemical engineering in 1966. In 1967, Pony answered the call to serve his country, joining the US Air Force. He proudly served until 1971 and was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in California. His military service was a time of growth and camaraderie, and he carried the spirit of service throughout his life. Pony's personal life was filled with love and laughter, shared with his devoted wife, Sandra Rice, with whom he built a life rich in love and family. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Kristin Greenwell and Austin Rice, who were the pride of his life. He welcomed his son-in-law, Tony Greenwell, into the family with open arms and was a doting grandfather to his granddaughters, Emily and Natalie Greenwell, whom he adored beyond measure. A man of faith, Pony was a devoted member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, where he found solace and community. His service to the church and his unwavering belief in its mission were integral to his life's journey. Pony's memory will be honored at a service on March 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, located at 639 S. Shelby St., Louisville, KY 40202. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Kentucky Humane Society and St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, organizations close to Pony's heart.
