It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Polly Ann Dortch, who left this world on May 17, 2026, at the age of 84. Polly departed this life as she lived it—gracefully and surrounded by love in the comforting embrace of her family and friends.
Born on July 11, 1941, Polly was a beacon of warmth and resilience throughout her life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 40 years, Herbert "Tony" Dortch, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Her brother, William Scruggs, also predeceased her, and she carried his memory with love and fondness.
Polly's legacy continues through her devoted son, Kenneth "Kappy" Gross, and his wife, Valerie Gross, as well as her daughter, Kelly Chase. Her grandchildren, Matt Daneker and Peyton Chase, were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Cousin, David Kidwell who she thought of as a brother. Polly's familial bonds extended far and wide, including her wonderful sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews, who held special places in her heart. She was also blessed with the friendship of many, including two incredibly dear friends, Trudy Blake and Shirley Smith, whose companionship and care were a constant source of joy and support.
A service to celebrate Polly's life will be held on May 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Affinity Funeral Service, located at 8074 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA 23226. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to North Run Baptist Church and Feed More, two organizations that were close to Polly's heart.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at The Harmony Collection At Hanover and AGS Hospice Richmond for the compassionate care and comfort provided to Polly during her final days. Their dedication and kindness were a source of solace during a difficult time.
Polly Ann Dortch's life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering strength. Her legacy will continue in the hearts of those she touched, serving as a reminder of the beauty and grace she brought into the world. She will be dearly missed, yet her spirit will live on in the memories and stories shared by those who knew and loved her.
