Obituary: Celebrating the Life of Pierre D. Mbongo Pierre D. Mbongo, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with a rare form of stomach cancer. Born on July 25, 1960, in Cameroon, Pierre's life was a testament to resilience, generosity, and an unwavering passion for tennis. Pierre was the beloved son of the late Dipanda Felix and Misse Sariette. Though his father preceded him in death, Pierre's memory lives on through his surviving family members, including his children, grandchildren, siblings, and many friends who were like family. He was also a treasured member of a wide and loving tennis community. From a young age, Pierre displayed an enthusiasm for sports which led him to become a certified tennis professional, a credential he proudly held since 1995 with the USPTA/RSPA - Racquet Sports Professionals Association. His love for the game was surpassed only by his joy in teaching it to the younger generations, helping kids discover their own love for tennis. Pierre was not only an avid tennis player but also a devoted follower of the Kanguka Church. He found solace in his faith and in the beauty of the outdoors, where he often spent time cooking for loved ones, creating dishes that were as full of flavor as they were of love. Above all, Pierre's greatest joy came from his family. He was a devoted grandfather who relished every moment spent playing with his grandchildren. A viewing ceremony will be held to honor Pierre’s life, with a public service to be announced at a later date in Cameroon. In remembrance of Pierre, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to The Life Raft Group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting patients with rare cancers, such as the one Pierre bravely battled. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University for their compassionate care. As they navigate this difficult time, they find comfort in knowing Pierre will be "Forever in our hearts." Pierre D. Mbongo's legacy of kindness and passion for tennis will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
