August 9, 1940 — March 3, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Piafa Vaai Talaimotua Toilolo, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on March 3, 2026, at the age of 85. Piafa's life began on August 9, 1940, in the serene village of Leone, American Samoa. She was the cherished daughter of Rev. Pitauliagatua Veoveoagi and First Lady Vionepa Atonia Toilolo, who instilled in her the values of faith, love, and resilience. Piafa's life was marked by her unwavering courage and compassion, qualities that shone brightly even in the face of adversity. After a valiant battle with lung cancer, she now rests in peace, reunited with her beloved husband, Tuimalo Malo Fofigia, who predeceased her after 54 wonderful years of marriage. Piafa's journey was one of remarkable achievements and cherished relationships. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from San Diego State in 1973, a testament to her dedication and perseverance. Her service in the military from 1974 to 2000 earned her the rank of Sergeant, where she exemplified leadership and commitment. Following her military career, Piafa continued to serve her community as a secretary, a role she fulfilled with grace and diligence until her passing. Piafa was a devoted member of The First Samoan Congregational Church of San Diego for 43 years, where her presence was a beacon of warmth and kindness. Her love for her Samoan heritage was evident in her passion for cooking traditional Samoan dishes and creating beautiful Samoan outfits for family gatherings. Her home was a haven of love and laughter, where she welcomed all with open arms and a generous heart. She is survived by her loving children: sons Don Vaoviga (Rebeca), Folaulomi Lomi (Atamiusilo), Leofasi Tuilama (Ronafi), and Se’osifa Ilualo Fafai (Sina); daughters Leoso Vanaia (Ropati), Siuelalao Mataleasi (Veoveo), and Sarona Falanika Tuimanili (Harold). Her legacy lives on through her 54 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory. Piafa is also survived by her dear sisters, Ritautua Milinase Tupuvao and Rosafa Talimilopoutani Taani Lemus. Piafa was predeceased by her parents, Pita and Atonia, her husband Tuimalo, and her siblings: brothers Afoa, Pelifau Fau, Sautele, and sisters Voipunao, Leoso, and Tovaleleomanaia. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Piafa are invited to celebrate her life and legacy at a service on March 19, 2026, at 9:25 AM at The First Samoan Congregational Church, located at 4302 Imperial Avenue. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available on YouTube. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Heart Association of San Diego, a cause close to Piafa's heart, at hasd.com. The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who supported Piafa and loved her during her final days. Her spirit will continue to illuminate the hearts of all who knew her, serving as a reminder of the power of kindness, courage, and love. Rest in peace, dear Piafa. You will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
