In Loving Memory

Phyllis Zamarro
October 6, 1951 — June 21, 2026
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Phyllis Zamarro, a beloved mother, partner, and friend, who left this world peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 74. Phyllis courageously battled pancreatic cancer with unwavering strength and grace, inspiring all who knew her.
Born on October 6, 1951, in Fitchburg, MA, Phyllis was the cherished daughter of William and Phyllis (Emma) Melanson, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Christen A. Zamarro, who passed away in 1989. Despite these profound losses, Phyllis remained a beacon of resilience and compassion throughout her life.
Phyllis' early years were marked by a strong dedication to learning. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1970, and continued her education at Mount Wachusett Community College, earning an Associate's degree in 1972. Her thirst for knowledge led her to further her studies at Assumption University, where she graduated in 1996, a testament to her lifelong love of learning and self-improvement.
Professionally, Phyllis was a dedicated and accomplished individual. She spent many years working for the Internal Revenue Service, where her keen mind and meticulous attention to detail served her well. Prior to the IRS, she honed her business acumen through various roles at CHL and several CPA firms, where she left an indelible mark with her professionalism and integrity.
Phyllis is survived by her loving son, Marco C. Zamarro, and his wife Meghan, who reside in Lunenburg, MA. Their love and support were a source of immense joy and strength for Phyllis. She also leaves behind the greatest man of her life, Donald Ouellette of Lowell, MA, her devoted life partner of 22 years. Donald's steadfast love and companionship were a constant source of comfort and happiness for Phyllis.
Phyllis was a woman of remarkable warmth and kindness, known for her generous spirit and her ability to touch the lives of everyone she met. Her home was a place of welcome and warmth, where family and friends gathered to share in her infectious laughter and wisdom.
As we celebrate the life of Phyllis Zamarro, we remember her not only for her professional achievements and academic pursuits but for the love and joy she brought into the world. Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In honor of Phyllis' memory, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to reminisce and honor a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a pancreatic cancer charity of your choice, to continue the fight against this disease that took her from us too soon.
Phyllis Zamarro will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love that she gave so freely in life.
