Phyllis Zamarro
October 6, 1951 — June 21, 2026
Phyllis Zamarro, a beloved mother, partner, and friend, peacefully passed away on June 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on October 6, 1951, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Phyllis graced the lives of many with her warmth, intelligence, and unyielding spirit.
Phyllis was the cherished daughter of the late William and Phyllis (Emma) Melanson. She carried their legacy forward with grace and love, embodying the values they instilled in her from a young age. Her early years were spent in Fitchburg, where she developed a love for learning and a deep appreciation for her community.
A proud alumna of Fitchburg High School, Class of 1970, Phyllis continued her education at Mount Wachusett Community College, earning an Associate's degree in 1972. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Assumption University, where she graduated in 1996, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Her educational journey was a testament to her dedication and resilience, qualities she imparted to those around her.
Phyllis's professional life was marked by a commitment to excellence and compassion. Her career spanned decades, during which she touched countless lives with her dedication and kindness. Her colleagues knew her as a diligent and supportive team member, always ready with a smile and words of encouragement.
Beyond her professional achievements, Phyllis was a devoted mother. She faced the unimaginable loss of her daughter, Christen A. Zamarro, who preceded her in death in 1989. Despite this profound sorrow, Phyllis's strength and love for those around her never waned. She found solace in the memories they shared and carried Christen's spirit with her every day.
For the past 22 years, Phyllis shared her life with her beloved partner, Donald Ouellette, originally from Lowell, MA. Donald, the love of her life, was her steadfast companion and confidant. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support. Donald stood by Phyllis through her battle with cancer, embodying the true meaning of partnership and love.
Phyllis had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen and heard. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality, where friends and family gathered to share stories and laughter. She was known for her culinary skills, often creating meals that were as comforting as her presence.
In her community, Phyllis was a beacon of generosity and kindness. She volunteered tirelessly, always ready to lend a hand or an ear to those in need. Her life's work was not defined by her career but by the countless acts of love and compassion she extended to others.
Phyllis's legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering kindness. She leaves behind a world that is brighter and more compassionate because of her presence. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we find comfort in the memories she leaves behind and the love that will endure in our hearts.
Phyllis is survived by her devoted partner, Donald Ouellette, and a community of friends and family who were blessed to have known her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Phyllis's life will be held at a later date, where her loved ones will gather to honor her extraordinary journey and the indelible mark she left on their hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity close to Phyllis's heart, continuing her legacy of giving and compassion.
