Phyllis Kloer Ahrens, a cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother, peacefully departed this life on July 12, 2026 with her family by her side. She was a beacon of love and grace for 97 years, touching countless lives with her caring, warmth and generosity.
Phyllis was born on November 13, 1928, in Baldwin, New York, to the loving parents George and Myrtle Kloer. A proud graduate of Baldwin High School, Phyllis began her career at the New York Telephone Company. She dedicated her early years to raising her family before returning to the telephone company, where her dedication and hard work saw her through to retirement.
Phyllis shared a beautiful life with her husband, the late Robert F. Ahrens and together they raised a loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert F. Ahrens, and cherished son, Jeffrey William Ahrens, her sister, Miriam Fay and Miriam's husband William. She is survived by her devoted son, Glenn R. Ahrens, and his wife, Cathy, and her loving daughter, Karen G. Wheatley, and her husband, Robert Wheatley. Her legacy continues through her six treasured grandchildren—Stephanie Newbery, Christopher Ahrens, Kristin Stephens, Gregory Guntharp, Gray Wheatley, and Jordan Skolnitsky—and her eight adoring great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy to her days.
Her passion for service was evident through her active involvement in numerous organizations. Phyllis was a cherished member of the Order of the Eastern Star and devoted countless hours volunteering at the Mill Neck Manor School of the Deaf. She gave her time generously as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, nurturing young minds and fostering community spirit. Her dedication extended to the Telephone Pioneers, where she held various leadership roles, including Treasurer, Secretary, and President. Phyllis's organizational skills and love for adventure were evident in the extraordinary trips she arranged, creating cherished memories for her fellow Pioneers.
Beyond her community service, Phyllis found immense joy in ballroom dancing, where she gracefully twirled her way through classes and local dances. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often visiting their homes and sharing in their lives with love and laughter.
Phyllis A. Ahrens will be remembered for her generous spirit and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and community.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of choice, allowing Phyllis's spirit of giving to continue to touch lives.
Phyllis Kloer Ahrens will be forever missed and fondly remembered. Her legacy of love and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
