In Loving Memory
Phyllis Thorne
February 4, 1948 — April 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of the beloved Phyllis Thorne, who left us peacefully at her home on April 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 4, 1948, in Mississauga, Ontario, Phyllis's journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit.
Daughter of the late Ralph and Maggie Thorne, Phyllis was nurtured in a family that cherished togetherness and compassion. She carried these values throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she encountered with her boundless kindness and generosity.
Phyllis was the devoted wife of 50 years to John Ivy, sharing a remarkable partnership filled with love and mutual respect. Together, they raised a beautiful daughter, Jenny, who has grown into a wonderful mother herself, continuing Phyllis's legacy of love and family. Phyllis's grandchildren, Eli and Mandy, were her pride and joy, and she delighted in watching them grow up with the same love of life and warmth she embodied.
Her education journey was a testament to her determination and resilience. Completing her GED was an achievement she held dear, and it paved the way for a fulfilling career as a gardener in a flower arrangement business. Phyllis had an innate talent for making flowers bloom, a reflection of the passion and care she infused into everything she touched.
Beyond her career, Phyllis was a dedicated volunteer at local food banks, where her compassion shone brightly. Her patience and understanding were a source of comfort to many in their times of need. Outside of her volunteer work, she found joy in cooking and hosting family barbecues, creating cherished memories with her loved ones. Her walks along sandy beaches were moments of peace and reflection, where she connected with nature's beauty.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband John, her daughter Jenny and son-in-law Johnny, and her cherished grandchildren, Eli and Mandy. She also leaves behind her brother, John Thorne, and his wife Stephanie, her sister Susan Thorne, and a circle of friends who were too numerous to mention but held dearly in her heart.
In keeping with Phyllis's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown support and paid their respects. Your kindness and presence have been a source of comfort during this difficult time.
Phyllis Thorne will be remembered as a beacon of love and kindness, a woman who would give you the shirt off her back and expect nothing in return. Her legacy of generosity and warmth will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those she touched. The family thanks you very much for your support and understanding during this time.
