Phyllis Marie Shinn
August 2, 1940 — June 19, 2026
Phyllis Marie Shinn, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, peacefully passed away at her home on June 19, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 2, 1940, in the peaceful town of Sentinel Butte, ND, Phyllis was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her 85 years of life.
Phyllis was the cherished daughter of the late Pete and Augusta Tescher, whose love and values she carried forward in every facet of her life. Her sister, Cora Roland, and grandson, J. Teigen Finnerty, as well as her loving husband, John R. Shinn, predeceased her, leaving a legacy of cherished memories and undying love.
In her youth, Phyllis was known for her spirited nature and her ability to brighten any room with her infectious smile. She married Neil E. Williams in November 1960, and together they welcomed two children, Neil E. Williams, Jr. (Sandy) and Dawn M. Carmichael (Gavin), who were the light of her life. After Neil’s untimely passing in July 1969, Phyllis displayed remarkable strength and resilience, eventually finding love again with John R. Shinn, whom she married in March 1981. Their union was a testament to enduring love until John's passing in April 2020.
Phyllis's hands were never idle, as she found joy and fulfillment in knitting, crocheting, and sewing. These hobbies were more than mere pastimes; they were expressions of her creativity and her desire to bring warmth and comfort to those she loved. Her home was often filled with laughter and the gentle hum of conversation, as she delighted in the company of her family and friends. Her open heart and generous spirit made everyone feel welcome and valued, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Her legacy continues through her devoted children, Neil Jr. and Dawn, and her two adored grandchildren, Neil E. Williams III and M. Tel Finnerty, who brought immense joy to her later years. Phyllis also leaves behind many extended family members who were touched by her love and kindness.
Phyllis's life will be celebrated on July 11, 2026, in Casper, WY, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and the remarkable life she led. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Phyllis M. Shinn C/O Teigen Finnerty Memorial Fund, ensuring her legacy of generosity and care continues to touch lives.
Phyllis Marie Shinn will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her ability to see the best in everyone, and her gift of making those around her feel cherished. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
