March 20, 1939 — April 21, 2026

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Phyllis Lorraine Thorne, who left this world peacefully on April 21, 2026, at UPMC Presbyterian. Born on March 20, 1939, in the close-knit community of Hermine, Pennsylvania, Phyllis lived a life rich with love, laughter, and devotion to her family and friends. Phyllis was the beloved daughter of the late Francis and Evelyn (Montanari) Cantini. She was preceded in death by her sister Gladys Emill, brother Robert Cantini, and her dear son Thomas Randy Thorne, each of whom she held close in her heart throughout her life. A proud mother, Phyllis is survived by her five adoring children: Andrea Lindsey and her husband Bill of Illinois; Gina Schooley and her husband Duane of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Lisa Thorne and her partner Charlie Wright of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Todd Thorne and his wife Sue of Blairsville, Pennsylvania; and Troy Thorne and his wife Amy of Three Springs, Pennsylvania. The love and guidance she imparted to her children have created a legacy that will endure through her 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her nurturing spirit and boundless love. After dedicating her early years to raising her six children, Phyllis found fulfillment in her later years as a tax preparer at H&R Block in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as the co-owner of Minute Man Press in Chambersburg, where her sharp mind and dedication left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working with her. Phyllis’s joyful presence and infectious humor could light up any room. Her laughter was a melody that resonated with all who knew her, and her compassion and generosity knew no bounds. She found immense joy in watching the vibrant wildlife that graced her yard, feeding the birds and deer, and reveling in the simple, profound beauty of nature. In accordance with Phyllis’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. Her family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life, a life marked by love, laughter, and unwavering kindness. In lieu of traditional services, a Celebration of Life will be organized to honor the incredible legacy she leaves behind. Phyllis will be remembered not only for the warmth she brought into the lives of her family and friends but also for the lessons of strength, resilience, and love she imparted to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched, a guiding light for generations to come.
