Phyllis Ann St. John

August 31, 1940 — May 26, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for the life she led, we announce the passing of Phyllis Ann St. John, who left us on May 26, 2026, at the age of 85. Phyllis passed peacefully in her hometown of Mentor, Ohio, surrounded by the love of her cherished family. Born on August 31, 1940, to Kenneth and Evelyn St. John, Phyllis grew up in the vibrant communities of Cleveland and Euclid before moving to Mentor. She was the beloved sister of Alan St. John, who, alongside his wife Susan, shared in Phyllis's life journey with a bond that stood the test of time. Though her parents have predeceased her, their love and values lived on in Phyllis’s everyday actions and interactions. Education was an important cornerstone of Phyllis's life. A proud graduate of Euclid High School, Class of 1960, she carried her school spirit into her adulthood, often sharing stories and fond memories of her school days with family and friends. Phyllis dedicated 37 years of her life to General Electric in Cleveland, where she diligently worked as a bulb inspector. Her commitment and work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Beyond her career, Phyllis found joy and camaraderie in her active membership at the First Covenant Church of Willoughby and the Mentor Senior Center. Her involvement in the Euclid Figure Skating Club during the 1960s was a testament to her grace and poise, as she lit up the ice in many a skating show. Phyllis was a woman of many talents and interests. At the Mentor Senior Center, she found a community that cherished her as she created wood carvings, played the Wii game, and excelled in chair volleyball. A proud competitor, she earned medals in archery at the Senior Olympics, a testament to her competitive spirit and zest for life. Her love for travel took her on adventures far and wide, from the sun-kissed beaches of Hawaii to the tropical beauty of Panama, often in the company of dear friends from the Center. Camping held a special place in Phyllis's heart, an interest nurtured during her youth by hanging with her cousins in Ashtabula and working at her uncle's boathouse. She relished the open road in her RV, creating treasured memories with her nieces and nephews on camping trips and vacations to Florida, where Disney World and the Florida Keys became backdrops for family joy and laughter. Phyllis's generosity and loving nature were most evident in the deep, nurturing relationships she fostered with her family. As an aunt to Mike St. John, Chris St. John, Kimberly Schwan, and Jennifer Shumann, and a great-aunt to 11 great nephews and nieces, she was a pillar of support, a source of wisdom, and a beacon of unconditional love. To honor Phyllis's extraordinary life, a service will be held on June 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the First Covenant Church, located at 29400 Chardon Rd, Willoughby Hills, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of a life well-lived, sharing stories and memories that will forever keep Phyllis's spirit alive in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Mentor Senior Center, ensuring that Phyllis's legacy of joy and community continues to touch the lives of many. In remembering Phyllis Ann St. John, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and unyielding kindness. May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace, and may we find comfort in the memories she leaves behind.
