It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Phillip Lee Syphus, affectionately known as Lee, who departed this world on May 17, 2026, at the age of 84. Lee passed away peacefully at home in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by his beloved family and cherished friends. His journey on this earth began on September 19, 1941, in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, where he was born to Muriel Perkins and Lester Syphus.
Lee was a man whose life was woven with the threads of love, laughter, and resilience. He was predeceased by his six brothers, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is survived by his only sister, Susan Eileen Zacker, who shared countless memories and adventures with him.
From his first marriage to Gayla Jardon, Lee was blessed with three wonderful children: Sharon Damarin, Marlene Bollinger, and David Syphus. They, in turn, gave him the gift of ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each carrying forward the legacy of his kindness and warmth. His devoted wife of 21 years, Deborah Syphus, stood by his side, holding him in her arms as he took his final breath, a testament to the deep and enduring love they shared.
Lee's formative years were spent in Las Vegas, where he graduated from Rancho High School in 1960. His talent on the baseball field earned him a scholarship to Southern Nevada University, now known as UNLV, where he pursued his passion for the sport. Though baseball was his first love, Lee chose to dedicate his career to providing for his family, becoming a respected State Farm agent in his hometown.
In service to his country, Lee proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969, continuing in the reserves until 1973. His commitment to his nation was a reflection of his steadfast character and sense of duty.
An avid outdoorsman, Lee was a lifetime hunter, enjoying the thrill of the chase for deer, elk, pheasant, sheep, and duck, a passion he indulged in until the last few months of his life. Beyond his pursuits, Lee was known for his charming demeanor and infectious laughter, qualities that endeared him to all who had the privilege to know him. He had a remarkable ability to find joy in the everyday and to share that joy with those around him.
Lee's family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. "Lee will always be in our hearts and souls. He was loved dearly by all," they share, encapsulating the profound impact he had on their lives.
As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of love, laughter, and a life lived to the fullest. May his spirit continue to guide and inspire us, just as he did in life.
A private service will be held to honor Lee's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Lee's name, a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to others.
Rest in peace, dear Lee. Your spirit will forever be a part of us, and your memory will be cherished for generations to come.
