In Loving Memory

Phillip J Richardson
October 19, 1939 — May 18, 2026
Phillip J. Richardson, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at the age of 86, after a long illness. Born on October 19, 1939, in the town of Hyannis, MA, Phillip lived a life rich with adventure, love, and laughter, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and warmth.
Phillip was the son of the late Earl Monroe Richardson and Berthana Richardson (née Sims). He was predeceased by his brother, Earl Monroe Jr., with whom he shared a childhood filled with laughter and sibling camaraderie. He is survived by his devoted partner of 40 years, Bernadette Ryder, whose companionship was a constant source of joy and comfort as they navigated life together between the woods of Maine and the sunny retreats of Florida.
A graduate of Orleans High School in 1958, Phillip displayed a profound sense of duty and adventure from an early age. He served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1961, achieving the rank of staff sergeant, then joining the reserves. Following his military service, Phillip returned to his roots in Orleans, where he served as a dedicated police officer. Yet, it was the call of the sea and the legacy of his family's fishing heritage that ultimately led him to become a fisherman, captaining his own boat, the F/V Patty Ann, where he found true contentment.
Phillip's life was a testament to his fierce loyalty and passion for the things he loved. A devoted member of the American Legion, Phillip was known for his steadfast support and commitment to his fellow veterans. His hobbies were as diverse as they were engaging; he was an avid fisherman, a NASCAR fan, and a golf enthusiast who could often be found on the green. Phillip also had an innate talent for tinkering, possessing an uncanny ability to fix anything and everything, often using his favorite tools- duct tape, flex seal and zip ties
Yet, it was Phillip's quick wit and humor that endeared him to many. Known for always having a joke at the ready—though often delightfully inappropriate—Phillip's humor was a hallmark of his personality, bringing smiles and laughter wherever he went.
Those who will miss him most include his sons, Jeff and Craig Richardson; his daughter, Wendy Hill; his daughter in law Stacey Richardson; his grandchildren, Ashley Richardson, Nicole Wood, Abel Thayer, and Evan Thayer, as well as his five great-grandchildren, Logan Carey, Wyatt Wood, Elijah Hersey, Lillian Wood, and Maisy Thayer.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cape Cod Post Acute Care, who provided compassionate care and companionship, eventually becoming charmed by Phillip's quick wit and indomitable spirit.
In accordance with Phillip's wishes, a private ceremony will be held in his honor. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Legion, an organization that held a special place in Phillip's heart.
As we celebrate Phillip J. Richardson's remarkable life, we find solace in the memories he leaves behind, comforted by the laughter and love he shared with all who knew him. His spirit will forever sail upon the seas he loved so dearly, guiding those he leaves behind with the same strength and humor that defined his life.
