Phillip Isaac Martinez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with a terminal illness. Born on December 28, 1962, in Trinidad, Colorado, Phil's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that touched all who knew him. Phil was a devoted family man, cherishing every moment spent with his beloved wife, April, whom he married on June 28, 1986. Together, they built a beautiful life over 42 years, raising two wonderful children, Phillip M. (Carrie) Martinez and Chelsea (Timothy) Gauna. Phil's love and pride for his family were immeasurable. His four grandchildren, Santino, Jonathan, Liam, and Vinicio, were the light of his life, bringing him endless joy and happiness. Phil began his professional life as a heavy equipment operator, dedicating 28 years to his craft. His career later shifted to his passion for cooking, where he spent a decade delighting others with his culinary skills. Yet, it was the opening of the Trinidad Boxing Club in 1996 that truly captured his heart. Through the club, Phil shared his love of sport, instilling discipline and confidence in young boxers, and creating a community that celebrated the spirit of perseverance. An avid fisherman, Phil found solace and joy in the serene embrace of nature. Weekends were often spent by the water, fishing line in hand, where he found peace and fulfillment. He also cherished hunting trips with his son, passing down skills and stories that will be treasured for generations. Phil was a man of remarkable character, known for his quick wit and infectious smile. His ability to lighten the mood with a joke or a warm gesture made him a beacon of joy to all. His kindness and generosity were unmatched; he could strike up a conversation with a stranger and leave as lifelong friends. Phil's gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued was a testament to his loving nature. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin F. and Betty E. Quintero, and his siblings Michael and Larry Martinez, and Maxine Webb. He leaves behind a legacy of love and countless memories to be cherished by his family and all who were fortunate to know him. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at COMPASSUS Hospice Care, especially Amber, Kathryn, Michelle, and Chaplain Scott, for their unwavering support and kindness during Phil's final days. In accordance with Phil's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. Those wishing to honor his memory may donate to a charity of their choice. Phil Martinez's life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and resilience. Though he may be gone, he will never be forgotten, and he will remain forever in the hearts of those who were touched by his presence.
