It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a lifetime of memories that we announce the passing of Phillip A. Rangel on March 21, 2026, at the graceful age of 89. Born on May 13, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska,
Phil was a son to Abelino Rangel and Lupe Velasque, who predeceased him, along with his beloved wife, Lupe, and siblings Robert, Juanita, Albert, Ysias, Frannie, Victor Jr., Delphino, and Lulu. surviving family members. He leaves behind his cherished children, Steven (Ann) and Philip Strauss. His grandchildren, James, Will, Chelsea, and Mayah, along with great-grandchildren Julia, Sophia, and Maverick, were the light of his life. Phil is also survived by his siblings Ben, Elizabeth, Mike, Vicky, Sally, Paul, Rachelle, and Vivian.
Phil dedicated 38 years of his career to the Metropolitan Utilities District, retiring in 1997. Beyond his professional achievements, Phil was a devoted member of the Son's of Italy, where he found joy in contributing to the famed spaghetti dinners, skillfully cutting meat and lending his culinary expertise.
In retirement, he discovered a passion for golfing, relished traveling, and was a fervent supporter at Husker football games. His love for animals was evident in his tender care for his cat, Nicky, and the outdoor cat crew he kindly tended to, with his beloved Lily Ashley holding a special place in his heart.
Phil's home was a testament to his devotion to family, with walls adorned with photos capturing moments of love and togetherness. He was a man of profound generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His compassion and kindness were the hallmarks of a life well-lived.
A service to celebrate Phil's life will be held at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, located at 1248 S 10th Street, Omaha, NE. Family, friends, and all whose lives Phil touched are invited to join in honoring his memory.

As we bid farewell to Phil, we hold onto the love he shared and the lessons he imparted. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, dear Phil, knowing you were deeply loved and will be forever missed.
